Obituary of Faye Marilyn Ryan
Faye Marilyn (Drew) Ryan of Portaupique, passed away in her sleep, December 2, 2024, at Debert Court. Born January 18, 1942, and Raised in Hilden, Faye was the daughter of the late Bob and Reta Drew.
Faye’s hands were always busy. Her thumbs twiddled in thought and then joined with her fingers turning strips, straps and string into craft sale treasures. Combining talent with tenacity, Faye could do anything. She quilted, crocheted, knit, and worked with wood. Much of what she made, from cakes to cradles, was gifted to others or sold to purchase gifts. A gift to herself might include a stove, a washing machine, wallpaper or paint. She had a tending disposition. She fed a husband and five children year-round and aunts, uncles and countless cousins at the cottage in the summers. She always ate last. She cared for a few old friends and relatives in their final years. In her own final years, she often tried to give away her food to visitors and residents at her Care Home.
“Mom was fun and funny. She played with friends and family. Frenchie’s was her Fairground. While Dad had a well-deserved funny reputation, Mom had a hilarious response. After having been apart for almost six months, it is easy to imagine them together somewhere again, playing 45s on opposite sides, Dad’s luck, Mom’s lament, shared laughter and love.”
During Faye’s final few years, she received care from the kind folk at Debert Court and an attentive daughter, Cindy; the rest of her life saw her exercising generosity and tending to the needs and comfort of others; family, friends and community folk.
Faye will be missed by her sister, Carol Drew (Ralph Robichaud), Moncton; children Susan Crocker (Alden), New Albany; Christopher (Lorraine), Middle Lahave, Cindy Ryan (Mike Mackay), Portaupique; Scott, Charlottetown, PEI; Paulo (Loree), Italy Cross; grandchildren Adrienne, Adam, Nicholas, Ceara, Aiden, Shawna, Kyle; step-grandchildren, Billy, Jordan, Ethan, Mason, Keira and Tyler; as well as her great-grandchildren, Russell, Angus, Everly, Fraser, Olivia, Kenzie, Charlee Mac, Harlow, Wyatt, Bentley and Emmett.
