‘Aggie’ passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, May 16, at Twin Oaks Hospital after a long battle with dementia. Our sweet mother, grandmother and loving wife will be dearly missed and will live forever in our hearts.
She was born on August 3, 1939, in Sheet Harbour, NS, where she grew up. Aggie graduated from nursing school at the Nova Scotia Hospital in 1958. She was known by her patients to be one of the most caring and attentive nurses during her nursing career at Stadacona Hospital, the Victoria General Hospital, and finally Twin Oaks Hospital for 18 years.
Aggie enjoyed going to ‘the camp’ her father built on the West River in Sheet Harbour where her heart lived. She spent many decades of her life there with her family every chance she could get, having many parties and gatherings, entertaining friends and neighbours with lots of food, song and dance. Aggie and Ward enjoyed going to community events, suppers and dances where she loved to dance a good jive with Ward. They also looked forward to going to Florida over the winter months to visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Cy, and on their many adventures with close friends Karl and Joan Nieforth of Connecticut.
After 20 years of being together, Aggie and Ward tied the knot and were married on the Oyster Pond walkway over the water in 2009. After the ceremony, she hopped on the back of a Harley bike in her wedding dress and went on a bridal run in pure ‘Aggie-style’.
She loved family gatherings with her children and grandchildren and was a fabulous cook and baker. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends around the pool during summer, going to the beach and soaking up the sun, and family walks around Oyster Pond.
As anyone who knew Aggie, knows she was always a ball of energy and full of spunk. She had a heart of gold and a fun-loving sense of humour, and was always the life of any gathering.
She was predeceased by her mother Marion Ogilvie (Murphy), father Ted Ogilvie, sister Elaine MacEachern (Ogilvie), brother Robert Ogilvie, sister Marlene Muirhead (Ogilvie), and daughter Melissa Stewart.
She is survived by her husband Ward Blakeney, daughters Michelle Zareski and Laura Young (Larry Keizer), son Doug Sievers (Jalaine), step-daughter Susan Blakeney, eight grandchildren: Alea Garrett (Evan), Ivy Burton, Paris Burton, Samantha Zareski, Emma Zareski, Jacob Young (Hodan Youssuf), Sean Sievers, Tristan Sievers (Elizabeth Campbell), and four great-grandchildren: Mikaela, Helo, Alex and Meredith Sievers, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks and deepest gratitude to Lynn Robia who provided the very best homecare support to Mom. Our many thanks also to each of Mom’s occasional home care providers. Much appreciation to Kim Cooper for the support and friendship she gave to Mom over these past years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 25, at 2pm, St. John’s Anglican Church in Oyster Pond, Monument Loop Road. Rev. Marilyn Murphy officiating. A scattering of ashes and prayer to follow the service over the Oyster Pond walkway. Private burial will take place at a later date in Sheet Harbour.
Reception to follow at Musquodoboit Harbour Lions Club, 43 East Petpeswick Road. We welcome anyone who would like to share any stories or memories they have of Aggie during the reception.
