Dear Adam and Family
Your Dad and I went to Bi High together, Grades 7, 8 and 9. We dated for awhile in Grade 9. This meant hanging around at Dartmouth Shopping Centre and hanging with our core group of friends. I have such nice memories of him. He was a really nice guy.
My condolences to you and your family.

Adam and Family
I am so very very sorry for your loss.
Your Dad was my first boyfriend when we were young teenagers. He was wonderful. He was exceptionally kind, gentle, thoughtful, respectful- pick any positive adjective- he was it. He was good to everyone he interacted with. I never saw him angry or impatient with anyone.
Although looks do not matter, of the almost 700 students in grade 10 at DHS, he was one of the handsomest.
It was a gift and a privilege to have known him.

First meet Dave as an operator at Spring Garden Place,
Reconnected with him at Central Services. Great guy. Lots of past fishing stories. He and I got out once this past year to help me in my casting. He always talked about his grey heron. You would be a very lucky fly fisher if had one of Dave’s grey Heron. Happy fishing Dave

Heartfelt condolences to Adam and family.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dave at the Young Street Central Services Building in Halifax. We very quickly became friends. Over the years, we enjoyed many opportunities to entertain each other with stories from the past and current events. I am sure that many others in earshot also benefited from the comedy from our cubicle conversations. We always parted with a laugh, and a smile. Always knowing that Dave would be back for more.
Dave was also a good listener. He provided me with sound advice when I needed someone to just listen and give me straight answers to life issues. I thank Dave for many of these conversations as they were grounded in his own life experiences. Some chats just ended with a funny comment that left us both hilariously laughing. I could always count on Dave to give a straight answer, he did not hold back, and he knew his stuff... sometimes.
Our talks were most often interrupted by the ringing of his cell phone. He had a building to manage, and he left no stone unturned in his resolve to ensure it was at peak efficiency.
I recall Dave providing Mark and I with an in-depth building tour. It was a fun adventure where Dave showed us the inner workings of the building. He told us some funny stories of events that happened in the past. It was easy to tell he knew everything about the building equipment and operations. I was impressed with his knowledge, he shined big for me that day. He had great pride in his work, and this showed in how well he took care of his Young Street family.
It is strange starting my day now without seeing and hearing my friend Dave. It was the normal routine as he made his rounds of the building, greeting everyone and sharing a quick chat.
What an amazing person and what a remarkable life. I feel so lucky that I got to know him. I will always cherish the wonderful memories I have with Dave. He will be forever missed.

This is sad and unexpected news. I've known Dave since the late 60's, and always considered him a great friend. We went through Bi-Hi and DHS together , played hockey , football , challenged some fast moving rivers in canoes , many "smokes" , and countless other adventures that are a little foggy to me now. We lost touch for many years, but over the last 4 or 5 years, We reconnected to a point where I'd drop in visit him a couple of times over the summer. But Dave never changed, still loved fishing and remembering the old days. Happy trails Dave, I'll miss ya.

So shocked and saddened for the loss of Dave.
I work at the Young Street office where Dave took care of our building needs so well. Dave was very passionate about this building and pitty the person that challenged his work or questioned the air quality. Dave's character was his charm and talking with him would take me out of whatever might be consuming my mind. He tried to present a tough guy exterior but we saw right through him, he has a big softie.
Condolences to the family. Dave you are missed already.

Our Moms were best friends so I knew David from the earliest of ages...his brother Clive was around my sisters age and so we were a natural fit as visitors and pals. Those early years details are clouded now but as my family circumstances changed he(and his family) came back into my life in a big way around age 14. My Mum became a single parent and at Mrs. Sweeney urging we rented the apartment under theirs on Fraser Street. David and I were again sidekicks and fast buddies; we hung around with the same crowd and his friends soon became my friends too. We played a ton of hockey together; one crazy season a team of misfits were put together and we kind of sent a very abused coach packing; David and I became "playing coaches"- Captain and Assistant, defence partners and we had a memorable season. We became known as a team that couldn't win a game bur NEVER lost a fight...bench clearing brawls every game LOL Many of the other team's players were friends or acquaintances and some of the "fights" were staged donnybrooks LOL. I recall a game where at school David told one of the League's star players, "If you make a rush with your head down, watch out or you'll see stars." Two minutes into the game David knocked him out cold with an incredible body check and all he got was a two minute charging penalty. I witnessed more than a few of his street scraps, he didn't take insults or bullying very well...some he took umbrage with were much bigger than himself and he took a couple beatings as I recall, but he earned a ton of respect for standing up for himself and other smaller chaps he often defended.
His family circumstance changed as had mine and we had to move again so we lost contact as high school came upon us...one huge thing came about in my life from the time spent under the Sweeneys, my Mother ended up dating, eventually marrying their border(Mort). I could write of many more adventures I had with David, we were like brothers in those days...Mort and I often talk of those days and we always hit upon wondering what David was up to...Rest In My Peace my once upon a time other Brother.

I was shocked to hear of Dave's passing. Dave was always chatty and always wanted to make sure we were all room temperature comfortable. He even took action to "Help" lower the mouse population. LOL
Dave also allowed me and my spouse to come and clear out the back bay where all the pallets accumulated.
I will miss seeing him around the office.
Rest easy Dave!

I was completely dumbfounded and shocked to hear of the news that Dave had
passed away so suddenly. My heart and condolences go out to his son Adam and Dave’s
other surviving family relatives. I first got to know Dave when I began working at Young Street
Central Services Building in Halifax for the Province of Nova Scotia. Dave was the Building Operator who
Took care of all the mechanical systems for this very important Government location.
Dave did an excellent job of making sure everything worked smoothly and he took great pride in his work.
He would always remind me of how ‘This building has the best air quality of all the government offices in the city’ and
How lucky I was to be working here. During the Covid lockdown when most people stayed at home, Dave didn’t. He was
Always on-site monitoring and taking care of whatever needed to be done to ensure the building worked flawlessly.
I really got to know Dave a lot better during this time when the building was mostly empty. We would talk about
Work and life and reflecting on our own pasts. Dave was a no-nonsense type of guy and very black and white when it came to taking
A stand on secular and non secular issues. Dave had a wonderful sense of humor, and we enjoyed many gut-wrenching laughs. He had a unique
Lexicon of words and he would often use them in describing one of his many stories. Both Dave and I had louder than normal voices and I would
Often find me telling him, we need to keep it down or we both are going to get fired.
Dave cast a big shadow and anyone who really got to know him, and his larger-than-life personality would never forget him. Beneath that sometimes rough
Exterior lived a heart of gold, and He would do anything he could to help you. Dave was more than a coworker, he was
My friend and a friend to all that met him. You will be sorely missed.
PS – Dave, now you know all the answers

Where to start, Dave got me in to fly fishing around age 20. So many hours watching him tye flies in the "shop" on Tulip street and telling stories. Then taught me how to tie flies including the Classics. Many more hours fishing. He had a few lines that became standard responses "Brucie" a big one, "There is" when you hooked one and hs favourite. " Let me show you where they lay" He would cast his fly in each spot and it was years before I realized it wasn't about showing me anything, he wanted first crack at the pool. Gonna miss you Dave.

There's alot to be said about the guy we knew as "Sweeney", he was welcoming, the door to his home away from home was always open (Known as the Shop). It was a place where good conversations took place. Dave was a friend that had alot of knowledge and wisdom about life, he was one of the smartest guy we knew.
We had the pleasure of having him as our best man at our wedding, he sure looked handsome in his tex. His talents as a fly fishermen didn't go unnoticed, he provided one of his fresh salmon for my bridal shower which was enjoyed by all and talked about for many years.
We are sending Adam, Valerie and his family with love and strength during this difficult time.
