Obituary of Irene Elizabeth Huntley

Irene Elizabeth Huntley, age 103 of Scott’s Bay, passed away at home on May 10, 2023, with her daughter by her side. She was born on May 3, 1920, to parents Warren and Edna Thorpe. Irene had an older brother, Edgar, and a year after she was born, a younger brother, Merrill.

Irene spend her entire life in Scott’s Bay where she worked as a clerk for Russell Jess and Henry Thorpe in their community stores for many years. She married the love of her life, Earl Huntley, and together they had two children, Lowell and Elizabeth. Over the years, Irene was an active member in her community belonging to the Jolly Weekly Club, Scott’s Bay Union Church Ladies Auxillary, and was a devoted member of the United Church of Canada, where she served as an Elder in Scott’s Bay.  She was also a member of the Scott’s Bay Senior Club and supported the Women’s Institute by supplying baked goods.

Irene is forever remembered by her daughter, Elizabeth (Robert), Scott’s Bay; daughter-in-law, Kathy, Hall’s Harbour; grandchildren, Blaine (Jennifer), Scott’s Bay; Shawn (Michelle), Hall’s Harbour; Darren, Hall’s Harbour; Heather, Greenwich; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brittany, Tanisha, Payten, Deven, Kaleb, Wriggley, and Wrenley.

In addition to her parents, Irene was predeceased by her husband, Earl; son, Lowell; and brothers, Merrill and Edgar.

A Visitation will take place on May 17, 2023, from 1-2 pm in the Union Church of Scott’s Bay, with Funeral Service to immediately follow; interment will follow in the Union Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Union Church of Scott’s Bay or the VON, Kings Branch in New Minas.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
