Obituary of Gladys Annie Fraser
With broken hearts, the family of Gladys Annie Fraser, announce her passing at the Annapolis Community Health Centre on March 12, 2023, with family by her side.
On December 17, 1930, Gladys was born in Scotch Village to the late Keith and Gertrude Harvey (Smith). She was one of nine Harvey children. The family moved from Scotch Village to Deep Brook when she was a young girl. Despite the hardships of that time, she shared many happy childhood memories.
After high school, Gladys and her friend Shirley headed off to Teacher’s College. Her first job was in a one room schoolhouse in Bear River East. She met and married the love of her life, Lorge Fraser, and they had three children. When their children were older, Gladys returned to the teaching profession she loved and continued to teach for decades. She was always happy to see and hear from her former students.
Gladys also enjoyed travelling the world. Trips to various European countries, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Monserrat, numerous states across the USA including Florida & Kentucky, and trips across Canada from Newfoundland to British Columbia and up north to Ouje-Bougoumou left her with wonderful, fun memories that she often reflected on. Just last summer, Gladys enjoyed a road trip to PEI with her daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandsons. She made it back to Cavendish Beach one more time to sit in the sun and watch the little ones play. She was always ready for the next adventure and if the wheels on the car were turning, she wanted to be in it!
Gladys enjoyed golfing and a good game of crib. She also treasured time spent at Sandy Bottom Lake. She would pack up and head to the cabin with Sarah, Kyle, Bria, and Ali for six weeks every summer when they were young. They would take swimming lessons at Raven Haven, pick blueberries (enough for her to make a pie at their request), bake bread, and go for walks. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren and welcomed many of their friends they brought along over the years. If one of her grandkids needed anything, she would always be there to help them. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Gladys was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Clementsport Legion and volunteered at many events while she was still able to do so. She also volunteered for many of the suppers at the Bear River Cherry Carnival.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Dolores; son, Randy; grandchildren, Sarah (Rob), Kyle (Samantha), Bria (Brodi), and Ali (Mich); great-grandchildren, Andersen, Nolan, Cameron, Brynn, Caleb and Connor; sister, Joyce Anderson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Harvey and Eileen Harvey; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her childhood friends, Shirley Burrell and Marilyn Brown, along with many other friends.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Lorge; daughter, Diane; brothers, Doull, Ron, and Leonard; sisters, Leona, Phyllis, Jean and Eva.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her family physician of over 35 years, Dr. Ken Buchholz, for his care and support over the years and especially over the past few months. She thought he was a wonderful man. Also, thanks to the staff of ACHC, of all departments, who cared for her during her stay or just popped in to say hello.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
