Obituary of Frank James Harris

Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Frank James “Jim” Harris, 86 of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully in his home with his family on October 27, 2018.

The son of Mary and Frank Harris, Jim lived his entire life in Dartmouth, working for Fairey Aviation and then 31 years at Imperial Oil. Jim and his high school sweetheart, Isabelle Leck, were married in 1955 and are fortunate to have three children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren who brought him great pride and happiness - not to mention the many family dogs who were a source of much laughter for him. Jim and Isabelle spent many happy summers at “camp” on the North Shore, where everyone would gather. Some of Jim’s happiest times were watching generations of his family enjoy the beach and one another’s company.  His family will always feel his love and presence as we continue to enjoy the special place he built for us.

Although he would be humble about it, Jim’s involvement in Scouting benefited many young people in Dartmouth.  He also enjoyed golfing and curling and was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada.

After retirement, Jim and Isabelle travelled extensively, enjoying their time together exploring the world.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Isabelle (Leck); daughter Judy (Charles); sons Bob (Heather) and David (Ena); his grandchildren Lindsay (Richard); Michael (Gillian); Meagan; Gillian (Luke); Alyson (Alexander); Mark (Allie); and great grandchildren Calvin and Olivia.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson Joshua.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.  A memorial service for immediate family will take place this week. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Port Wallis United Church. Condolences can also be sent to Port Wallis United Church, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
