Brian is survived by his wife Judy (Boutilier) brother Barry (Janice) sister Glenna (Neil). He was predeceased by his parents Ernie and Helen and brother Garnet of Hamilton ON. Born in Hamilton ON, August 4, 1944 he graduated from Delta Secondary School in 1964. Following High School, he opened one of the first Canadian Dairy Queen Brazier stores, in Scarborough ON operating the business until 1969. He then travelled east, attended Saint Mary's University graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1973. Over the next 30 years he worked in sales and management roles in various industries including steel, shipping, building materials and financial services sectors, retiring from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Brian met Judy in 1978 and they were married for over 36 years. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, 5 godchildren and close friends. A man of great faith, he was a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas / Canadian Martyrs Parish. Kind and generous with his time, he was always willing to help those less fortunate than himself. He always gave more than he received and for this we are truly grateful. His door was always open for a good social occasion, able to celebrate more birthdays and anniversaries than we would care to mention. Brian and Judy spent 16 fantastic winters in Stuart Florida where he developed a great love of American politics and way of life. An avid sportsman, Brian was an accomplished squash player and official and in the last decade or so tackled the game of golf with great passion. He was a long-standing member of the Fenwick Squash Club, the Waegwoltic Club, Halifax and Martin County Golf and Country Club in Stuart Florida. With the inspiration of his brother Barry, he rowed with Delta Secondary School and the Leander Boat Club in Hamilton, participating in the Henley Regatta for many summers. Known for his love of life and a good bottle of wine, Brian was a National President of the Society for American Wines, founding member of the American Wine Society, Halifax tended his own vineyard in the Annapolis Valley and partnered in wine making with his friends at Hummingbird Hill. Funeral Mass will be celebrated, 10:00 am. Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford St, Halifax, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Brian's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to a charity of your choice or do a good deed for someone less fortunate in your community. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (902-679-2822). We would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the QE 2 Health Centre in Halifax for their care and compassion and the many heartfelt words, deeds and support from family and friends. "And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand." From the hymn "On Eagle's Wings" Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
