Donkin, Lt. Charles Frederick (N) Ret’d; It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Charles Frederick “Charlie” at the age of 84 on Sunday July 17th 2016, at home. He was born in November 8, 1931, son of the late Dr. Charles Alpin and Florence (Barteaux) Donkin. Charlie was a proud veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, served in the Korean War and was known for his wit and wonderful sense of humor. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, the former Jean Elizabeth Thomas, and was about to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on September 8th. Also surviving are his son Scott Donkin (Theresa Maclean); grandchildren, Natasha and Leisa Donkin; sister Marion Oldershaw and great-granddaughter, Ava, all of whom brought him so much joy. Charlie will also be missed by his faithful companion “Corky” who regularly strolled the neighborhood with Charlie. Besides his parents he was predeceased by infant son, Charles Earl (age 5 months) in 1957 and his daughter, Shelley Lynn (aged 28 years) in 1989; and his sister, Louise Bowers in 2015. Memorial service will be held Thursday, July 21st at 3:00 pm in Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, with Rev. Phillip Kennedy officiating. Reception to follow, Graveside service will take place on Friday July 22nd at 3:00 pm in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Saint John, New Brunswick . In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be made to www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca
