Obituary of Sgt. Joseph MacDonald

MacDonald, Sgt. Joseph age 85 of Kentville passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Valley Regional Hospital on September 26, 2013. Born in Inverness on December 31, 1927, Joseph was the son of the late Dan and Katherine MacDonald. Joe joined the RCAF in 1946 as a Radar Tech. Serviced in Greenwood, NS, Biloxi, Miss, USA, Kingston, NS, Chatham NB, Comox BC, Fort Nelson BC, Vancouver, BC, Richmond BC, Trenton, Ont., Ottawa, Ont, Greenwood, NS, Shearwater, NS, and last posting Baccaro (Barrington, NS) where he retired in 1978. After moving to the Valley he worked at ACA as a poultry inspector from 1978 to 1987. He also did volunteer work with the 4H club. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Maxine; daughters Celeste Gilbert (Brian) of Lower Sackville; Teresa Sheehy (Vernon) of Mt Denson; Karen White (Fred Schofield) of Coldbrook; brother Terence MacDonald (Aline) of Montreal; sister Margaret Redmond of Vancouver; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Donald; sisters Catherine Larussic and Jessie Koscel. The family would like to express special thank you to grandsons Christopher and Matthew for all of their love, care and support given to Gramp for many years and to the doctors and nurses at the Valley Regional Hospital on Medical A and especially Dr. Nunn. In keeping with Joseph's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Donation in Joseph's memory may be made to the Kentville Volunteer Fire Department or the Valley Hospice and Palliative care at the Valley Regional Hospital. He will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends.
