Obituary of Ronald Sterling Young

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Ronald “Ron” Young on September 27, 2024, at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron was born in Sheet Harbour to parents William and Catherine Young and was also welcomed into the home of his foster parents Gordon and Anna Holland.

Ron made many friends over the years – during his time sailing on the Louis St. Laurent, his dedicated career at Scotia Fuels and as a Volunteer Firefighter at Station 23, Chezzetcook.

After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, hunting with his grandson and his “John Deere”, he loved to mow.

 

Left behind to grieve are his wife, Eileen; son John; daughter Ann (Mike); grandchildren Joe and Megan; brother Francis (Denise); sister Syliva; and foster brother John Holland (Judy).

Ron is Also survived by his furry companion Teddy who slept under his chair, many nieces’ and nephews, cousins and his “Best Buddy” since childhood Tom Holman.

 

In addition to both his parents and foster parents, Ron was predeceased by brothers Billy, Guy and Glen and sister Stella.

 

Special thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and all the staff at Twin Oaks Hospital for their care of Ron especially in the last days.

 

Cremation has taken place and in accordance with Ron’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. There will be a graveside burial on October 12, 2024, at 1 pm at St Anselm's Church Cemetery, West Chezzetcook with prayers by Deacon Oehmen. All welcomed to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron’s memory to Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
