Obituary of Colin Murray Nichols
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin Murray Nichols, 57 of Freeport on August 7, 2024, in the QEII, Halifax. Born in Digby he was the son of the late Gordon and Ada (Manette) Nichols.
Colin was a man of few words “if you met him on the road, he may mumble “hi” to you, if you said hello first, even to family members.” He was a homebody who enjoyed a simple life and watching television, some of his favorites were King of the Hill, American Dad, Bobs Burgers and he loved the History Channel, as much as Colin enjoyed watching television there were some shows he just didn’t like, such as anything to do with home improvement and would complain anytime his brother, Mark would turn it on. Colin loved learning, he was a history buff especially when it came to learning about The World Wars, he also enjoyed learning about how things were made and put together. When Colin wasn’t watching television or learning about history you could find him working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles or spending time with his cats, which he had many as pets. Colin was a night owl; he would choose staying up all night rather than waking up in the early morning. Colin loved being home, it was his favorite place to be and would only leave the island if he really had to and when he did, he often referred to it as a nightmare.
“When we were kids, Colin had beautiful ringlets, he didn’t like them and cut them off one day, it didn’t go over well with our grandmother. Every summer he would go eat wild strawberries everyday until he got an upset stomach. As a kid he loved dismantling things, especially removing the arms, legs and heads from his sisters Barbie dolls and never putting them back together”
Colin is survived by his sisters Christina (Larry), Susan (Jim); brothers Mark, Robert, Richard, and Cecil; nephews Christopher (Alicia), Ronnie, Daniel, and Matthew; great niece Catalaya; as well as great nephews Kyle and Chauncy.
Colin was predeceased by his parents.
