Obituary of Doreen May Corkum
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen May Corkum, 89 of New Minas on June 10, 2024. Born September 11, 1934 Doreen was the daughter of the late Oswald and Henrietta (Morley) Phalen.
In her younger years, Doreen worked for Canada Foods. As she got older she moved on to work at ACA Poultry in New Minas. Doreen relished in the time she spent in her yard to create a beautiful landscape. She also took pleasure in going for Sunday drives any day of the week. Whenever she could, Doreen would go for walks with her friend and companion Ed Lloyd. Their favorite place to go was the Windsor trail by the water and after they would stop for a bite to eat at Lisa’s Restaurant. They also enjoyed going to the Marsh. Doreen was a big country music fan and on occasion would go to shows, Fox Mountain and Port George were two of her favorite places.

Doreen is survived by her four sons, Robert, Eric, Paul, and Richard; five daughters, Elizabeth, Shirley, Brenda, Wanda and Carolyn; 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Theodore F. Corkum; brothers, Lloyd, Wilfred, and Donald; sisters, Phyllis, Shirley, and Theresa; as well as her friend and companion Edwin G. Lloyd.
The family of Doreen would like to give a special thank you to Doreen’s daughter, Elizabeth for always being available to take mom to her appointments, thank you to Brenda for being available to offer her kindess and extended care, to the Valley Hospice for their soft hearts and compassion while Doreen was in their facility as well as the nurses and doctors at the Valley Regional Hospital for the care Doreen received while there.
There will be no visitation as per Doreen’s request and a small private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
