Pauline Lockhart

Obituary of Pauline Greta Lockhart

Pauline “Paulie” Lockhart, 84 passed away Thursday morning, May 16, 2024 after an extended battle with Alzheimer's. She fought hard to the very end, but now she is at peace.

Paulie packed a lot into her nearly 85 years, born in Gypsum Mines NS to Madeline (nee Cochrane) & Charlie Lockhart, she dreamed of going to college to become a physical education teacher, instead, she moved to Halifax to be a dancer. She met and married Rudolph James (Rudie) Grindlay, they had 3 children Victoria (Vickie), Stephen, and Paula.

Paulie held many jobs over the years; cashier, cook, driving instructor, waitress, caregiver as well as a few years working on the Gypsum boats with her second husband Edgar Robert Ettinger (Satch). She loved to curl, bowl, play ball, she was a huge Blue Jays fan, darts and cribbage were other favourites of hers, and she was fiercely competitive. A bit of a beach bum who loved to camp, especially if there was a music festival going on, and there was ice cream involved…. grapenut please.

Travelling was a big part of her life when she could do it, trips to California to visit relatives, Alberta, BC to visit children. St Pierre & Miquelon with her brother, Newfoundland and PEI as Kinsmen…Australia, because who doesn't want to visit Australia. A train trip across Canada then an Alaskan cruise. In June 2018 Paula & Vickie took mum to Toronto to see her beloved Blue Jays live for the final time, and what a time we had.

Yup she packed a lot in, usually with an animal at her feet, whether it be cat or dog or both, didn't matter.

Paulie is survived by her sister Gwen McCann, children Victoria Ann (Doug Gray), Stephen Rudolph, Paula Denise (Kevin Holden), granddaughters Michelle Denise Richards, Danielle Louise Bilsborough & Autumn Ruzycki and 3 great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, predeceased by great granddaughter Sophie Loralee Phee.

Many thanks to the staff at Windsor Elms for making mum's last few years special, she loved, loved, loved you all.

Paula and Vickie would love to extend a very heartfelt thank-you to cousin Julie Decoste for her loving devotion to their mum, “she's been an absolute angel” ❤️

A celebration of life will be held in Sweet’s Corner Community Hall on June 1st, 2024, from 1-4.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, or charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
