Obituary of Robert Sanford Huntley
It’s with great sadness the family of Robert “Bobby” Sanford Huntley, age 86 of Scott’s Bay announce the peaceful passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather on Sunday, April 14, 2024, in the Valley Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Vernon and Dorthy (Dykens) Huntley. He was a lifelong resident of Scots Bay.
Bobby worked as a carpenter for V.C Woodworth along with other construction teams to build the high rise – Dormitory at Acadia University. He also did numerous carpentry jobs through-out the community. Bobby partnered with his late brother-in-law, Claude Tupper, as a lobster fisherman until he retired and assisted the late Gary Steele with his sign business. he was a member and an honorary trustee of the Union Church of Scots Bay.
After a fire destroyed his brother’s garage in Scots Bay, Bobby was determined to establish a fire department in the community. A committee was formed and through much determination and dedication the Scots Bay Station #2 of the Canning Volunteer Fire Department was established. Thanks to Bobby the first fire truck was purchased for which he was later re-imbursed. He served as Captain for numerous years and was veteran of the Fire Department at the time of death.
Bobby will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Heather; step-son, Blaine (Jennifer); Bobby had special love for his grandchildren Payten, Devon, Wriggley, and Wrenley; sisters, Marion (Harold) Power, Laverne (Arthur) Dowell, and Berneice; brothers, Kenneth (Frances), Everett (Louise), Daniel (Donna), and Vaughn (Elaine); sisters-in-law, Kathy, Gwen, and Juanita; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine; his sisters, Brenda, Mable and Mildred in infancy; brothers, Howard, Philip, and Lawrence; sister-in-law, Brenda, brothers-in-law, Ronald Ward, Robert Barkhouse, Claude Tupper, and Lowell Huntley.
The family wish to thank the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and the doctors and nurses of the Valley Regional Hospital.
A Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the Union Church of Scott’s Bay, 5704 Hwy 358, Canning. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm with interment to follow in the Scott’s Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canning Volunteer Fire Department or the Union Church of Scott’s Bay.
