I also want to send my gratitude to the whole family that let me be a part in the growing experience, often never ending learning and agricultural business of many varieties. God bless you all and take care.

I was a strawberry breeder in Ontario who worker with Don Craig and had occasional visits with Gib. I admired his honest and hardworking nature. He ran a great strawberry and raspberry plant production operation in the new Certification Program for NS. I adopted it, with modifications, for Ontario.
It is great that the family will carry on with his legacy.

In the late 60's I started working for Paul C Palmer Ltd in the building what is now the museum in Berwick. I was the new parts man and the first phone call I answered was from Gilbert Allen looking for a small paper gasket for his Ford Dexta tractor. I have always remembered that call and the part he was looking for. He was a gentleman to deal with.I have not seen him for many years but often have thought of him.My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Joel my deepest condolences for the loss of your dad. Never easy to fill the void left, however I'm sure with time, peace and comfort will be present, and I'm sure a few smiles in time. A measure of someone's legacy is in their family, and knowing you he was a good man!

Our deepest sympathy to Dot and family. Many years ago we rented the little house on Park St. from you and Gilbert when we moved to Kentville. We so appreciated Gilbert’s and your kindness at that time, especially the invitation to enjoy the apples in the orchard, and the visits to make sure that everything was OK. Our hearts go out to you at this sad time.

I am sorry to hear about Mr. Allen. mom and the other lady’s enjoyed working for him. He gave me my first job at ten on weekends and days off school. Best memories i have are of him coming to the packing rooms in good spirits and joking with the workers. He would find a lighter side even when the plants were in mud from days of rain. I wish i could’ve made it for the service and i know if mom was still here she would have come.

To Janice and family: my sincere condolences on the passing of your Dad Gilbert. Reading the obituary brought back memories of the summers my sister Janet, our cousins Connie, Wendy and I spent picking strawberries in his fields. Your Dad would come by to check that we were alright under the hot sun; that was a long time ago. As children we didn’t know or understand his passion and commitment to farming. His life from what I’ve read was rewarding and now he’s at rest. May the many years of memories you share bring comfort and peace as you deal with his death. God Bless you all.

Joyce and I were very sorry to read of Gilbert’s passing. Gib and Dot were helpful and kind to us when we moved to Billtown in 1968. I particularly valued my relationship with Gib as deacon of Billtown Baptist and our conversations in and about the fields and barns of their farm. To Dot, Janice, Jeffrey and their families, please accept our sincere condolences and may God sustain you all.

Dear Allen Family,
I did not have the chance to meet Mr. Gilbert Allen, but my team and I at the Kentville Research Station have seen first hand the legacy of his work in building a trusted and productive strawberry nursery that serves growers across Canada. We also took the time this week to read about his contributions to research and his induction into to Atlantic Agriculture Hall of Fame. His dedication and impacts to the agricultural community will live on through you, his family. We send you our deepest condolences.
On behalf of the AAFC small fruit program,
Beatrice Amyotte

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Allen's passing. I remember him, when I was much younger (60+ years ago), as being a very kind man who really liked to tease a shy, young girl. (I think I really liked the teasing too) He was at our house the night that Janice was born and I remember how excited he was when the phone call came in. He was always very good to my brother Bill and they shared a friendship for all these many years. I am sure he will be sadly missed by his loving family but I think he will be also fondly remembered by his many friends and colleagues. RIP Mr. Allen -- Job Well Done!! God Bless You All.
