Obituary of Christine Faye Hughes

Please share a memory of Christine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with broken hearts and tear filled eyes we announce the passing of our loving mom, partner sister, and best friend, Christine Faye Hughes, age 62 of New Ross. Mom conquered her illness and went to rest on February 4, 2024, in the warmth of her home with the love of her life, Chris, by her side. Born in Bridgewater, she was the daughter of the late Ivan and Faye (Naugler) Lenihan.

Christine was a member of the Christ Anglican Church in New Ross. She lived for her family and in particular, her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. The guiding light for her children, she was our constant source of unconditional love  and support. Her kindness knew no limits and expanded into the community. Christine welcomed everyone into her home with loving, open arms, and no one was left with an empty belly or without a hug.

Mom loved to bake and cook. Flowers made her so happy and she made sure to surround her home with them every Spring and Summer. She loved country music, hosting parties, and singing karaoke.

For more than 30 years, Christine was an integral part of G & C Hughes Enterprises, helping to shape and grow the family business. Affectionately known to many of her customer as “The Firewood Lady”, her genuine kindness and her smile gave her the innate ability to make everyone feel welcomed.

“We will desperately miss Christine, we were blessed enough to
know her forever in our hearts.”

Christine loved to travel, she and Chris would often pack a bag and head out on an adventure with an unknown desintation. These vacations always came with lots of stories and laughs. She traveled south of the border several times with her brothers, Laird and Blake, and sister-in-law, Ann. She was always grateful for this time spent with family.

Mom’s motto was “one day at a time”, something we have all had to learn to embrace during her 18 month jouney with pancreatic cancer. It is now something we must continue as we grieve and navigate this loss. She never lost faith and even in her last days she reminded us that family is the most important thing of all.

Christine is remembered by her devoted spouse, Chris; children, Rustin (Randi), Whitney (David), and Matthew (Holly); grandchildren, Gabby, Sophie, Jake, and Noah; step-children, Colby and Courtney; brothers, Laird (Sarah), Michael, and Blake (Ann); and several nieces and nephews.

In additionto her parents Christine was predeceased by her sister, Janice; and sister-in-law, Mary.
