Richard “Rick” Dale Long, age 57 of Greenland and Bear River, passed away on December 2, 2023, in the Digby General Hospital.
Rick studied Basic Marine Engineering at NSCC in Port Hawksbury and then worked as a mechanical engineer aboard cargo ships that took him to many destinations. He was a master at “reverse engineering” by taking problems apart and figuring out what went wrong. Most recently he was employed as a bus driver for the Annapolis Valley School Board.
Rick enjoyed skydiving and was a skydiving instructor in the Annapolis Valley. He also was fond of the trips he spend on his motorcycle; and met the love of his life Amanda through his biking friends. When not skydiving or on his motorcycle, he loved to tell stories, spend time with his family around the campfire, plant his garden, raise farm animals, and smoke meat.
Rick would often relax during the summer evening on the deck, watching the world go by, listening to the windchimes, and watching the humming birds fly around. However, his favoruite way to relax was to take the buggy with his daughter, Emma and his “Dog, Dog”, Ivy, back to the meadow that he named “Emma’s Meadow”.
“Rick always said his daughter, Emma was his biggest accomlplishment in life.
He was so very proud of her.”
Rick is remembered by his spouse, Amanda; daughter, Emma; brother, David; two aunts, and many cousins and friends.
Rick was predceased by his parents, Edward “Teddy” Long and Gloria (Wilson) Long.
