Obituary of James Allison Hiltz
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are saddened to announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, James “Jimmy” Allison Hiltz, age 69, of New Ross. He passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Monday, September 11, 2023. Born October 1, 1953 in Berwick, Jimmy was the son of the late Harold and Violet (Morrow) Hiltz.
Jimmy was one of a kind, he was a funny man who always had such a big heart and would give you the shirt off his back if that’s all he had. In his younger years he was a welder for local #56. Once he became injured and had to retire, he spent most of his days at home in his shed known as the Dingle 2, the camp, making Christmas Wreaths in the winter, or in a deer blind drinking a cold one waiting for the big buck, or two.
Jimmy spent the summers of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s gearing up for his brothers Corn Boil on the Farm in the Valley, where he raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He spent his last few years really embracing being a great Grampy. His grandchildren, especially Liam, were his pride and joy.
“He will be so missed by all who had the chance to get to know him.”
Jimmy is survived by his beautiful common-law wife of 31 years, Debbie; children, James (Tammy), Cheyanne (Darrell), Gerald (Dawn), Michael (Vanessa), Katelyn (Justin); step son, Matthew; grandchildren, Katelyn, Jesse, Chandler, Lila, Bryson, Jordynn, Aiden, Liam, and Noah; step-grandchildren, Hayden, Tyler, Seth, Hunter, Lucas, Ashton, Henry, Adelaide, and Rydia; great grandchild, Everleigh; brother, Harold “Butch” (Jean); sisters, Mary (Lloyd), Charlotte (Lester), Marlene (Robert), Audrey (Bill), and Suzanne (Kenneth); plus many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his son, Casey “Dewayne”; brothers, Earl and Bill; and nephews, Trevor and Dustin.
Cremation has taken place. At Jimmy’s request, there will be no visitation, service or burial. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the QEII Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0 (902-689-2961).
