I feel a great deal of gratitude to have learned so much from Gerard's calm, confident, common-sense approach to leadership during his time as president of the Annapolis Royal Legion...golf stories not withstanding! Lol.
He was always fair and compassionate in his dealings with everyone. To this day, I lean on so many of those lessons. Rest well, Gerrard

Dear Heather and Family,
I just finished reading Gerard's full life story here and aside of the word Golf, I wasn't 100 % sure this was the same Gerard LeFort I knew way back in 1970/71 when we both worked at The Digby Pines together. I can remember being with him on the links for a few matches and he was so keen , concentrating and just plain better than any of us at this game of Golf. His saying that you included in his storied life re Fair Winds was certainly him since he always wanted to know what the weather would be like each day because his mind was continually out on the links.
That smile of his and upbeat positive attitude is something I'll never forget about Gerard and on behalf of my Wife Christine and myself, sincere condolences are coming your way today form Windsor.
God Bless Him
Cliff Williams

It was with surprise and sadness that I read of Gerard's passing.
My deepest heartfelt condolences to Gerard's family and friends.
I first met Gerard when he became a fishery officer working out of the old Annapolis Royal Fisheries Office.. Then moved on to work in the new D.F.O. Digby detachment. Gerard was a soft-spoken,, no-nonsense, and extremely professional fishery officer, When he spoke others listened. He was a much-respected enforcement officer. Both with the industry, he served so faithfully and his fellow co-workers . Gerard was a reliable and much-respected officer in our South West Nova Scotia enforcement team. He will be deeply missed and always fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure to know and work with him. Rest easy my friend and ex-colleague.
Alan Clarke ex South West Nova Scotia Enforcement Chief

Thinking of you all at this very trying time.
Gerard was such a quiet man but, what a great sense of humour! We always had a chuckle whenever I saw him, sometimes at dear Heather's expense. LOL As well, I don't know anyone that could eat as much Peanut Butter and bread as he could.
Gerard is in a much better place now and he will be watching over you all. Hold on to that thought and your memories of better times. My heart and my prayers go out to you all.

My sincere condolences to the LeFort family. Gerard and I were roommates during the summer of 1970 working at Digby Pines while attending university. We all connected with Gerard quickly due to his outgoing and friendly personality. I remember he was the only summer staff that owned a car so many opportunities for road trips. As in many cases we lost contact over the years even though we both continued to live in Nova Scotia.
Rest in peace Gerard

Gerard was a great fella to work with, he could always put a smile on your face with his wit. Gerard was always up for golf tournaments with the Digby team and he never let us down. He always spoke very highly of his family, especially his kids. He was a proud father. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
