Obituary of Bernice Comish
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence “Bernice” Comish (Boylan), age 92, on August 13, 2023, at Valley Hospice, Kentville, with family at her side. Bernice was born in South Alton; she was the daughter to the late John Austin and Annie (DeAdder) Boylan. She spent her early years in Aldersville, Lunenburg County.
A couple of Bernice’s passions were sewing and baking. This served her well as she was employed as a Master Seamstress at Waterville Hospital, and later as a Pastry Chef at Chez La Vine (Wolfville) and Jim Joans Restaurant (Coldbrook). Mom was not one to stay idle and loved to sell Tupperware, Avon, Amway, Studio Girl, Olde World Products, Nature Sunshine, and Matole.
Bernice was very community minded and was involved in many groups, some of which she held executive positions in over the years; these included Secretary/Treasurer at Blue Mountain Field Day Association, President North Alton Hall, President at both North Alton and Kentville Senior Groups, Member of North Alton Welling Workers, and participation in Senior Expo Games where she won ribbons. Mom loved her senior bowling league and bonus bus trips that included her son Frank. Mom was proud to be a member and former President of the PC Women’s Association Kings/Hants.
“Above all else Mom loved her family and cherished the time we got to spend together. We love you Mom, and you will be forever in our hearts.”
Bernice is survived by sons, Frank (Judy) Russell, Brian Russell, and John Russell; daughter, Nancy (Ron) Mapplebeck; stepchildren, Brenda, Stephen, Shaun (Sharon), Kevin, and Melanie (Ron); 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Frank Comish; son, Kirk Russell; daughters-in-law, Cathy, Marg, and Bobbie; brother, Basil; and sister, Ethel Nancy.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kings Riverside Court, Valley Hospice, and VON for the care and compassion they gave Mom and for their tenderness and love shown in her final hours.
A visitation will take place on August 22, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, in the Serenity Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on August 23, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Serenity Funeral Home.
