Obituary of Laura Lee Huffaker

Laura Lee Huffaker was born in Tennessee in 1956 to Muriel and Philip Huffaker.  She grew up in Brantford Ontario, excelling in music and physical education which she studied at Western University in London, Ontario, and then went on to teach in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.  She was commended for her inclusion of handicapped students and honoured for encouraging reluctant students, seeing the potential in them that they did not even know they had.  She inspired excellence and devotion in her middle school bands.  

Laura was a member of various bands including the Quigley Ensemble, the Botsford Blues Band, the Dartmouth Community Band, the Tuesday Night Band, and the 3 Helens.  Her sax could be heard over the waters of Lawrencetown Lake much to the delight of her neighbours.  

Laura loved hosting, her spaghetti sauce, steaks, and BBQs were renowned.  She enjoyed painting, gardening, paddling, and sitting with her cat Ranger watching the sunset.  She was known as someone who was always true to her heart when she spoke and always had a good story to tell.  Her passing leaves a void. 

Laura was predeceased by her brother, Russell. She is survived by her sister, Debra Huffaker; and her niece and nephew, Hanna and Brendan Little.  

Thank you to her many friends for their care over the last two years, you know who you are.  And a special thanks to Bette for such wonderful love and care over the last few weeks. 

There will be a private interment in memory of Laura at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
