I met Dana 20 years ago. A friend of mine recommended him as a “wealth of knowledge”. Within the first 30 minutes in person we were in my garage having some Cole beer and talking nonsense. Since then Dana was a friend and mentor. Anyone who knows Dana knows that he would always place your needs infront of his. He would drop anything to help a friend. The world needs more people like this man and he will forever be missed. Rest peacefully Dana. Your friends and family will love you forever. James.

On behalf of my family and myself, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to Dana's family. He was a great man, and a wealth of knowledge. I worked with Dana from 2007 to 2015 at Northeast Equipment. I would call on Dana with any in-floor heating questions that I had and he always knew the answer. Dana would help anyone and everyone anytime. He will be deeply missed by everyone. RIP Dana

When I think of Dana I think of a life well lived. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and important. The loss of his light makes the world a sadder place today. I borrowed these words from a poem to try and express my hopes and prayers that you can find some peace in your loss.

When laughter filled the air.
And the presence of your loved one,
Will lessen your despair."

My heartfelt sympathy to Dana's family. Although I hadn't seen Dana in person for many years, I will never forget the wonderful, happy little boy he was when we would get together at his Mom's house (my aunt Muriel) for a potluck meal. Such happy times with lots of love and laughter. I was sad to read Dana's obituary, but I was so impressed with what he's accomplished in his life and the many lives he's improved and touched along the way. May happy memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.

We run across a ton of people as we go through this life. Some we don’t remember. Some we wish we could forget. Some who carve out a place in your heart because they are so funny …or so full of life … or so endearing even when they are being bad. Dana is one of the latter. He lived life ‘large’, and he loved Laurie and adored Megan even larger. He was, simply, a good person - a special person - and his sudden and unexpected departure from this world feels so unfair and hard to believe. Laurie, Megan … and all of Dana’s family, especially his mother … we are so sorry for your immense loss and unfathomable heartache. Take care of yourselves and each other.

We first met Dana & Laurie at the Pembroke Music Festival in Upper Stewiacke. We have a place close by, so we brought a large cooler bag to keep our beverages cold throughout the day and evening. We had placed the bag on a picnic table at the back of the entertainment area and left to wander the grounds and socialize with the people we had already known. When we returned, Dana & Laurie were standing next to the table leaning against a post, they started chatting with us explaining that they had been contemplating what could possibly have been in such a large cooler bag. Their potential option to what this cooler bag could potentially be holding were quite entertaining. We started chatting and all sat together at the table.
I am horrible with remembering people's names, faces I will likely remember forever but remembering someone's name is much more difficult for me. After a few times of not remembering Dana's name, he was determined I would learn it. He came to my side of the picnic table, sat in front of me and we chatted. He asked me again what his name was and of course, I couldn't remember lol. He said my name is Dana, say it. I did, he said say it again, I did again. This went on for a few minutes. He was determined and I did remember his name, well at least for the rest of that night.
We again spent time with Dana & Laurie the next day at the festival. We went with them over to their camper and chatted for a while. It was so nice to meet them, and we arranged to stay in touch. We did, sporadically. Mostly the guys.
Fast forward and festival season was again upon us. I had sent Laurie a message asking if they had plans to go to the upcoming festival. We invited Dana & Laurie to come stay with us this year rather than spend the weekend at the festival grounds. They accepted. We were excited and nervous to have them for the weekend.
When they arrived at our cabin, they laughed and explained that they had wondered how safe they would be accepting this invite. Our cabin is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by woods & wildlife. It is approximately 7 kms of dirt road with only a few places within the first 2. They joked (or at least we think they were joking) about the potential that we could be serial killers or something else totally nefarious and wondered if they would live the weekend. If nothing else it was a great ice breaker conversation to begin our weekend.
We decided we would participate in one evening of the festival instead of the entire weekend. We decided we would take them to a couple of the local waterfalls, a swimming hole and enjoy some games, food and great company and let's not forget the firepit, which Laurie had (and still has waiting for her return) her very own lightweight fire poker. We are pretty sure she burned a cord of wood that weekend ;) lol. It was a wonderful weekend, and everyone made it out alive!
We also enjoyed spending time with them in their home, they were gracious and prepared a beautiful meal, even in the middle of a power outage.
I am so very happy we had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Dana & Laurie. I will always remember his big smile, calm demeanor, humor, love of food and even more so his love for Laurie and Megan as well as his determination to teach! lol
We are still in shock and regretting the loss of opportunity to spend more time with you. Fly high and soar Dana, you will be remembered and thought of often!
So much love & sympathy for Laurie, Megan as well their family & friends.

The passing of Dana comes as a huge shock and saddens me. A few months ago, we ran into each other at a local bar watching a band and it was so nice to chat and meet Laurie. Dana was one of the first people we met 18 years ago when me moved to Hayling Acres. He made an emergency call to our house when our hot water tank decided to crap out after hours. I don't recall how we came to call Dana, but he showed up very quickly and was eager to help out the new kids in the hood. He very friendly and knowledgeable. We had the privilege of watching Megan grow up and can attest to how much her father time her father spent with her and just how proud he was of her and her musical talent. We cannot imagine the loss that you feel at this time. Its so unfair. You have many many years of memories to hold dear to your heart. He will certainly be missed on Shepherds Lane and in Hayling Acres.

The problem was that every time he took me to the curling club his team lost so I was quickly referred to as a jinx lol
He will be missed. He always had a smile on his face and a sarcastic comment to hand, which I loved.

Dana I am going to miss our Sunday afternoon conversations at Millstone, especially talking about the Blue Jays. Kim and I always could see how proud you were of your daughter Megan and Laurie, your wife, best friend, and partner in crime. Kim and I will miss you. RIP Dana.

Our kids grew up on the campground together. One summer, Dana rescued us. While at the campground, my son and husband were in an accident totaling the truck. Dana and Laurie were just following behind when it happened and Dana made two trips back from the site to unload the side bags of the truck, stating, “How does he even have all that @&$? in there?” Directly following the fearsome event Dana and Laurie invited us to dinner and we have counted them as friends since then. Our thoughts are with you at this time.
Gonna miss you Dana. Your energy is contagious!

Dana was a true friend who I will sadly miss! Nothing but great music, laughs and conversations about business and life were had over the years!
Gone much too soon is an understatement! We met up at Kempt Shore Acoustic Festival in the early years where I got to play Celtic style guitar for his talented daughter Meghan!
Dana was so proud of Meghan and talked about her and Laurie often. I was fortunate to have played with Meghan many times over the years at open mic’s and gigs in Cape Breton.
Love ya bud .. cheers!

Everyone who knew Dana is so shocked and saddened. Dana has been a friend for many years (since high school) and we curled in the same league, on Tuesday evenings, for more than 12 years. At the club, Dana loved sharing fishing stories with my father, who shared his passion for the sport, catching up with everyone on the news of the week and participating in competitive banter. Our deepest, heartfelt condolences to Laurie, Megan, Mrs. Sams and the rest of his family. He will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

My sincere condolences Laurie & Megan. It still seems surreal. Dana was way too young & had so much to live for. I had a nice chat with him at the fishing derby in Guysborough in June . He was telling me about the new cottage plans . Rest in peace Dana.

I had the privilege of meeting Dana a few years back with JBM Sales. The first time he stepped into my office I knew then he was a great guy. He would visit NL many times throughout his career with JBM Sales. We became very good friends outside of the business sector. We would always exchange text, pics and chat on the phone. It was always a pleasure to hear from him. His love for life reflected on his personality. I will miss you dearly my good friend. My condolences to his daughter, wife and other family members.
