Obituary of Russell William Skerry
Please share a memory of Russell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Russell "Russie" William Skerry, age 82 of New Ross, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023, in the Valley Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Russell and Ella (Naugler) (Skerry) Leary.
Russie, like his father, was a carpenter beginning his career working for Rosedale Builders in Halifax. For approximately 5 years, he drove a bus for Bluenose Transit, transporting students from New Ross and surrounding areas to the Bridgewater NSCC and then doing maintenance on all the buses during the day. Russie enjoyed spending time with his friends and meeting them for coffee at Tim Horton’s. He loved tinkering on his special cars, most recently his Ford Mustang. After retirement, he was kept busy planting and tending to his vegetable garden, cutting and splitting wood, riding on his 3-wheeler, watching his favorite TV shows, and helping Betty make Christmas wreaths.
Russie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty (Russell) Skerry, New Ross; son, DeWayne (Paula), Annapolis Royal; daughter, Pat (Geoff) Woodworth, Falmouth; grandchildren, Alicia and Kyle Woodworth, Falmouth; sister, Virginia (Michael) Rafuse, New Ross; sister-in-law, Anna Skerry, New Ross; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Maggie.
Besides his parents, Russie was predeceased by his step-father, Elias Leary; brothers, Edison Skerry, George Skerry, and Charles Skerry.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Valley Regional Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion these past few months.
