Obituary of Richard Daniel Hiltz

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Daniel Hiltz, age 75, of New Ross, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on July 3, 2023, with his family by his side. Born in New Ross, he was the son of the late Harley and Margaret (McAleese).

Richard was a welder by trade for over 50 years and belonged to UA Local 56. He was also a long-term member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 079, New Ross. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed cutting his firewood for the winter, faithfully tending to his bird feeders every day, and watching the hummingbirds during the summer. Richard also looked forward to putting up his Christmas lights each year.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy (Rafuse) of New Ross; daughter, Rhonda of Dartmouth; beloved grandchildren, Shelby of Alberta, Hayley, and Dean both of Dartmouth; brother, Terry of Bridgewater; sisters, Margaret "Rita" (Kenneth) Seaboyer of New Ross, Maureen, and Toni both of Halifax.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister, Darlene, in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will take place at Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Chapel on July 9, 2023, at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, Hope for Wildlife, or a charity of your choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0 (902-689-2961).
