Obituary of Maxwell James Lohnes

Please share a memory of Maxwell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maxwell James Lones, age 73, of Conqueral Bank, died peacefully on May 24, 2023, with his family, daughter Jackie, son-in-law Scot, and wife Linda, by his side.  Born October 6, 1949, in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Ester Lohnes of Rosebay.

Maxwell went to Center School, was an active member of the Trinity United Church in Riverport, and excelled in the Canadian Sea Cadets. He grew up loving the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting; however, he always found time to torment his beloved sister, Carol.

After school, Maxwell went to work at National Sea where he met his first wife. Together they moved to Ontario where he worked with Irving Oil’s Great Lake Boats. The family grew while in Ontario with the birth of his two daughters Jackie and Kim before moving back to Nova Scotia. He continued working with Irving Oil until 1991.

Maxwell then met his soulmate, Linda Hebb, and married her on August 12, 1991. They enjoyed each other’s company and made many memories together. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, he was no longer able to work on the boats; so, he picked up a hobby of investigating genealogy. He spent years researching the family line and was proud to be able to get it finished.

Maxwell’s memory will live on through his family and will be cherished by all who knew him. He leaves behind his wife, Linda; children, Jackie (Scot) and Kim (Eric); grandchildren, Evan (Lori), Matthew (Kris), and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Levi and Skyler; sister, Carol (Harold); many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary; step-children, Monique, Wendy, Annette, Denis, and  Jackie all of Ontario; 13 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Maxwell was predeceased by his brother, Michael; and nephew, Todd.

Thank you to the South Shore Regional Hospital and all the staff of Continuing Care, Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), Home Support, Surf Lodge, and Shelburne Hospital. We could not have fulfilled his wishes without any of you.

Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Service will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy #12, New Ross, B0J 2M0 (902-689-2961).
