Celebration of Life
Obituary of Charles Alexander Ross
Peacefully and surrounded by family, Charles A. Ross, of Digby, passed away on May 6, 2023, at the age of 73, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late William and Eva Ross.
Charles loved life, and he lived a full one. He had a number of professions during his working years, ranging from Bank Manager with Scotia Bank for several branches, Assistant Funeral Director with Jaynes Funeral Home in Digby, and most notably Emergency Dispatch Operator with the Municipality of Digby, retiring in January 2014 after 20-years. Charles also served on the Digby Water Commission and obtained Veteran Fire Fighter status with the Digby Fire Department after 17-years of service.
An avid sportsman, Charles loved and excelled at tennis, baseball, and golf. Summers spent golfing with his buddies at the Digby Pines Golf Course upon retirement were times he looked forward to and cherished.
Charles’ love for his family, friends, and community was evident in everything he did. Always a smile on his face, a joke on his lips, and outstretched arms, he will be remembered for his big hugs, playful teasing, and kind heart. His personality was larger than life, and this world was a better place with him in it.
Charles will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 46-years, Rosilyn (Oickle) Ross; son, Reid (Deanna) Ross; granddaughter, Marissa (Jolan) Young; great-granddaughter, Ava; brother, William Douglas (Miriam) Ross; twin sister, Beverley (Donald) Delaney; brothers-in-law, Gary (Diane) Oickle, Eugene Oickle; sisters-in-law, Jackie Oickle, Susan (Andrew) Bezanson; special nieces and nephews; and his furry companions Max and Misty.
In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by parents-in-law, Malcolm and Cora Oickle, brother-in-law, Malcolm Wayne Oickle; sister-in-law, Ruthanne (Stewart) Oickle.
The family wishes to thank the 2nd Floor medical staff at Digby General Hospital for their care and compassion, with extra special thanks to Dr. Mazeroll, and nurses Roxanne Jeffrey and Chris Opmaco.
In keeping with Charles’ wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or formal funeral service. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in the Digby Fire Department from 1-3 pm. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Digby Fire Department or Society for the Friends of Ferals. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Digby County Funeral Chapel, 367 Highway #303, Digby, NS B0V 1A0 (902-245-2444).
