Much sympathy to the family. Mary Ann was a wonderful teacher at West Kings
over sixty years ago. She taught me German and maybe French for two or three years. A very kind and patient woman.

This is my oldest foster sister that I grew up with for 19 years... I always admired her and wanted to be just like her!! Being away for a week and then laid up with hip issues the past couple of weeks, I wasn't aware of her passing until I saw the post of her memorial on Facebook. Mary was my role model all my life and taught me to appreciate everything from sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlework, cross stitch, baking, gardening, education, reading, mothering, dancing and classical music. (Mario Lanza). She was a mother to me, being 14 years older. I remember her and the family coming to visit and I'd be so excited to see them and the ugly cry when they'd leave. I remember the days Mary would bring Dick home to meet us and they were courting, I was mesmerized but their romance, true love. I remember visiting her in Yarmouth as a teenager and she'd let me do things I was never allowed to do at home.. She knew how to be a good mother and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. She taught me how to be the best mother I could be. Sewing outfits and dressing my children all alike on Christmas was following in her footsteps. She was a prime example of a good wife which I strived to be. And of course I wanted a husband just like Dick.. ( I finally found my prince in 2018). Dick taught me my first French words and encouraged me when I ventured into French throughout my education... Dicks words " You need to think in French.. not translate to English".. Mary would drive me around in her little Karmann Ghia... visit friends in Middleton, (Fred Hall) and Pauline in Lunenburg. She's rock me in the rocking chair before bed each night, reading historic books to me like Heidi, Helen Keller, Buzzy Wing, Polyanna, Rin Tin Tin and many others. She taught me to do the Cha Cha Cha with lots of patience when I'd step on her toes. We'd go for walks and I met many friends from Yarmouth through Mary. Her being Apple Blossom Festive "Miss Wolfville" and going to the Coronation was a highlight in my life. She looked like a princess in her beautiful gowns. Her wedding was that of royalty to her Prince Richard. Then when her three little girls came along, I became the proudest Auntie and learned all the little details of taking care of infants, collecting baby clothes from Frenchies, feedings and singing A` Paris`. She was so proud of her white cloth diapers on the clothesline and not using pampers...I followed this with all four of my children and my grandson. She didn't buy baby food, she made it from fresh food. She also taught me that no child should have a dirty face or clothes. She taught me how to roll and fold clothes from Frenchies so we could get more in our bag...( that's when they sold by the bag full). There's so many wonderful memories. I watched Parkinsons take my foster Dad and now my sister.... life can be so cruel to those we care about. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Jane Doucet, Clare Doucet Munroe, Anne Scott, and their father, Richard(Dick). I'll always remember Mary's beautiful voice, singing Ave Maria, in the vestery of the big wooden church in Saunierville, Church Point. Breath taking! Mary... we may have drifted far apart but you have and will always be in my heart ❤️

So saddened to hear of Mary's passing. She was beautiful inside and out. I (June)
remember seeing her at various gatherings throughout the years and she would always say, "why, there's my favorite cousin", and she and I would chuckle because we both knew that she would be repeating this to ALL of her "favorite" cousins.
Much love and sympathy to Dick and family.

Mary was my close friend in the Wolfville High School years. We spent many hours memorizing Latin phrases on one of the nearby rooftops. Although we did not meet many times in later years, I'm so sorry to hear of Mary's death. I'm sure memories of her bright intelligence, sense of humour, and pleasant personality will live on with her husband and other family members. They will, in my mind.

Most of my memories of Mary Ann go back to early family gatherings, visits to
The lovely cottage in Avonport, playing in the fields behind the house. Also occasionally there would be a larger family gathering of the Urban Family in the country. After losing touch for so many years, it was wonderful to find a connection with Mary Ann, Richard, Anne, Clare and Walter once again. This eventually led to a visit to see my cousin and Richard. It was so heartwarming! This was a highlight of our visit to Kentville. We also learned so much about our fathers family history with the many records and treasures that were lovingly preserved. After reading so many tributes to Mary Ann I learned so much about her life and talents which made me so aware of of what a beautiful and special lady, wife, friend and mother she has been. When we spoke on the telephone, her personality, optimism and keen wit were always present. She will always be in my heart and I will treasure her memory.
Much love to Richard, Anne, Clare, Walter, Jane and all the family.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary Ann's passing, my deepest condolences to all of you. I met Mary Ann through Richard when I was a new teacher at Yarmouth Junior High. I was saddened & shocked to hear of Mary Ann’s passing. I looked forward to my bi-weekly visits to do Mary Ann’s hair. Over the years I learned I had gained Richard & Mary Ann as friends, not just a client. RIP Mary Ann. You were a very kind, caring, gentle woman. For so many years I sat next to Mary Ann in choir. She was an incredibly gifted singer, and she always kept me in tune when I wandered. I truly loved her, as so many others did. After her stroke, I looked forward to seeing her at mass with Dick, even though she could not get up the stairs to the choir loft. I would reach for her hand, and the memory of her being at my side helped me to sing. She was a quiet and powerful influence. Dick, you were so devoted to her. I know what a loss this is for you. Mary Ann’s whole Choir family is praying for you.

I was so sad to hear of Mary's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her entire family at this difficult time. Mary always lit up a room with her bright smile, infectious laughter and positive attitude. She was a lovely lady! Fred and I were so pleased to have a visit from her while Fred was ill. She brought us the most delicious strawberry jam we had ever tasted. After she left, we each took a spoon and devoured every bit of it right from the jar. Rest In Peace, dear Mary. You will be missed. I'm sure Fred was waiting in line on the other side to give you a big hug.
