Our condolences to our sister in law Ellen, Danny,Tonya and families . Words cant say how we feel in our heart. Alfred will be missed by all of us who loved him. Here is a little story i told Alfred when i last saw him, we had a laugh. At the time i was about 8 yrs old and Alfred took me trouting for the first time. We went to the bottom end of the three stick pond,as you know there is some heavy brush and trees at that end of the pond. We only had bamboo poles and you had to get to the waters edge with trees behind you. When we dropped the baited hook and bobber into the water, Alf said " now you have to wait until the trout takes the bobber down." Being new to trouting , i was planing to catch every trout in the pond! As soon as that bobber went down i sent that trout about 50 feet back into the woods and then Alfred and i spent an hour untangling my line.
That day Alfred taught me patience and showed the loving and caring person he was.
Alfred your journey on this earth is over, you can rest easy now and your next adventure is just beginning.
i will miss you Brother. Love Noel1217 and Melita

Dear Aunt Ellen, Danny, Natalie, Chloe, Alex and Tonya and Jeff,
Our deepest condolences on the loss of your dear Dad. Uncle Alfred was my Godfather and will always be remembered for his kind and loving demeanour. He brought laughter and songs into the room and was happy sharing stories with Arthur of his time in the RCAF. I remember lobster suppers in Shearwater, parties in your backyard in the Valley and Uncle Alfred being at my baby shower. He loved you all so much. Rest In Peace Uncle Alfred. Love Heather

Dear Ellen, Tonya,,Danny and all the family
Deepest sympathy to you all on your loss of husband, father and grandfather
He was a man of great spirit who faced life's challenges with courage
It was so nice to often hear his voice as he called just to see how I am doing
He always took time to drop by on his uncles to cheer them up and share their stories not forgetting to remind all that “it was a wonderful life”
I felt privileged to have him stay at my home a few years ago along with Gary and we did some catching up time from the years they two visited the island to grandpa Ryan
Know that prayers are with you all as you grieve his loss
Keep his candle burning
God bless
Love. Aunt Marie

Great friend, AL was always positive and a real gentleman. I new him from his Airforce days in Chatham where we played soccer on the Base team. I have mixed emotions as I read his obituary. He had a great life, well deserved, but far to short. Sad that he suffered the big C. RIP and blue skies.

I want to offer sincere condolences to Ellen and family and the whole Grant family. Alfred was a great guy and brought such a positive vibe everywhere he went.
I remember so many treasured times shared during the summers when he would come home to Lawn. The visits to our house on The Green, the talk, tea, food, music and all sorts of wonderful things. Mom and Dad were always so happy to see him and the feeling was 100% mutual with Alfred. Alfred and Dad would always have to plan a day trip in the dory together. We all considered him a real friend and truly a part of the Edwards family. A person of Alfred's character and quality will be missed for sure and also remembered in so many meaningful and worthwhile ways.

I will always remember Alf. when I hear an aeroplane pass over from Shearwater or when on the MacDonald Bridge and look to the ships in the harbour.
Alfred has now "Crossed The Bar", as Alfred Lord Tennyson says in his poem
"Crossing The Bar". One of Alf's favourite poems.

Though we did not get to know Alfred well personally, it has felt my whole life as if we were fast friends. When his sister Anne married my Uncle John so many years ago, the Grant Family became our extended family and, though Alfred and family lived away, through the stories and news from Aunt Anne, it always felt as if I knew you all personally. How special to read such a wonderful tribute to a wonderful human being who used the gift of his life to be a blessing to so many others. We have been holding him in our prayers in these recent weeks and will continue to hold you all, as a family, there as you navigate life without him physically in it with you. May the best of him live on in you all who knew and loved him best. With love and blessings, Paula Gale and Family, Lewisporte, NL

Ellen, Tonya, Danny and all of the Grant Family,
My condolences on Alfred's passing. He was also a great Air Force mentor. Alfred and I had many great conversations that only military people would relate to. It was a privilege to spend time with him, especially on our last two visits in November 2022 and February 2023.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
MWO Grant, a salute to you with the Air Force Motto - Per Ardua Ad Astra (through adversity to the stars)
Rest in peace, Alfred (my cousin and friend)
