I did not know Guy well, but his kind nature and good spirit was evident. It is only now that I realize who was responsible for cleaning the ice on the pond out back. I wish I had got to know him better. Rest in peace, Guy.

Guy was a friend of mine I met through Dartmouth Whalers hockey. When I met him he was helping out on the ice with the kids. He was a nice guy, a thoughtful guy, and really wanted what was best for the kids. Over the years, I would often bump into him at the rink and we would chat...sometimes for a minute, sometimes for an entire practice.
He was always texting me to get a game of pond hockey going or for other events.
I'll miss seeing Guy at the rink. I know the last few years had to be tough for him as his health wasn't great, but I never heard him complain once.
Rest in peace, Guy. It was great knowing you.

Our deep condolences for the loss of Guy. Guy was a wonderful person, always showing interest in people around him and concern for their well-being. He faced his severe medical challenges with an incredible courage, never complaining. The last time we heard from him was August 27 when he, in his usual cheerful way, wished Rob luck in his swim. He will be sorely missed.

Guy was the DJ at our wedding on July 13, 2012. He was diagnosed with cancer during the planning of our event. I remember telling him he did not need to put the pressure of DJing our wedding on himself. He said there is no way he would miss our wedding. As always, Guy did a tremendous job DJing that night. The next year, Guy was the DJ at my best friends wedding. Again, Guy did an amazing job and his presence made the night even more special. Guy was a loyal and devoted father, caring and thoughtful friend. He went above and beyond for anyone he cared for. He had a great sense of humor, loved to play sports and have fun. I was heartbroken to hear that Guy passed away. My deepest condolences go out to his family, especially his loving mother, Janet and sweet son, Joe. Much love, Jen Hutch

To the family of this shining light of a human. I am so sorry for your loss. I met Guy years ago and bumped into him at parties and sometimes while he was DJ’ing every now and then since first meeting. He always had a smile—“ Guy Smiley” is the most perfect nickname I would give him too. He didn’t let anything get in the way of having a good time that’s for sure! He sure did his best to live a wonderful and fulfilled life by making sure everyone around him felt special, important and loved. Sending piles of love to the family and friends.
Rest Easy, friend. X

Guy, will be missed but always remembered for his smile and sincerity. He was a valued member of the Cole Harbour Rugby club where his energy on and off the field and in the club house or social gatherings was always uplifting. He was a brave soul who always showed his compassion towards others , especially when he had real challenges of his own to bare. I can guarantee there will be many toasts and testaments to his character and good deeds that have not gone unnoticed in the Rugby world, a small part of Guy's journey but big contributor to rugby and comradery. Cheers Guy, and rest in peace.

I was lucky enough to be billeted with Guy at a hockey Tournament in Montreal when we were around 10 or 11 years old. I always remember that tournament cause of how much fun we had with that family. RIP Guy.

We are so shocked and saddened to hear of Guy's passing. He was a great person and truly cared about his friends and family. Two months ago he was helping us through a very difficult time. He checked in daily, if not a few times a day, and continued to touch base even after the crisis was over. We have seen him with his son Joe and Guy was truly happy and proud to be his father.
On Tuesday the song Rasputin by Boney M came on the radio. I turned it up and it made us smile but also sad. Surely someone has a video of this but Guy and Glen used to do the Russian Dance to this song. It was always hilarious and they were actually good! At the Annual Christmas Eve party at the Hermanson's, you felt like family. There was always a house full of people, lots of food and drink, good conversations and laughs.
Guy, we wish you peace and hope you know you have made a lot of lives brighter and you'll be missed by many.
