Obituary of Eva May Kerr
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing away of Eva May Kerr, 84 of Wolfville, on May 22, 2021. Daughter of the late Henry and Blanche (Greeno) Kerr, Eva was born in Windsor, NS.
Eva grew up with her family spending some time in Port Williams and then at the West Brooklyn homestead. She attended school for a while until she jokingly tells people, she was asked to leave as she was a distraction to the boys! Eva started working at the Flower Cart, when it first opened, and there she worked for 34 years. She made many friends there, especially Susan. Eva moved to Wolfville and became her roommate and lifelong companion. Susan’s mother was a great support in making this a positive experience. Together they had many wonderful vacations with Susan’s mother to PEI, Cape Breton and the South Shore. One of their cherished times was meeting Rita MacNeil at her tea house.
Eva became a member of Support Services Group Co-operative in 1996. Where she received support for independent living. Eva and Sue were both involved with the Kings County People First Group and Eva served executive positions both locally and provincially. She was a strong advocate for the rights of people who had been labelled with a disability.
Eva enjoyed music, going to the movies, shopping, going out for coffee and, in later years, reading. She was a regular attender at any literacy classes offered. She had a great sense of humour, was a very social, outgoing and caring person. Eva took great interest in the lives of those around her, whether at the Flower Cart, SSG members and support workers, the People First members, neighbors, the VON, Susan and her own family.
Everyone was her “buddy” and she will be missed by all.
She is survived by companion and beloved friend of 32 years, Susan Peill; brother Lewis (Dorothy) Kerr; nephews Steven Kerr, Roy (Rose) Kerr; nieces Joy Kerr, Donna (John) Roelofs, Cindy (Tim) Martin, Kathy (Phil) Carnie and Tina Kerr; several great-nieces and great-nephews, all of Ontario.
A Private Graveside Service will be held in the West Brooklyn Baptist Church Cemetery. A Celebration of Eva’s Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Flower Cart or Support Service group in her memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
