Obituary of Dorothy Pearl Ettinger

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

We’re saddened to announce the passing of Dorothy Pearl Ettinger, 83 of Truro, loving Mother and friend to many, on April 11, 2021 in the Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro. Born in East Noel, Dorothy was the daughter of the late William and Elsie (Densmore) Neil.

Dorothy loved a good laugh and spending time with friends and visiting with her daughter’s family.  She loved the challenge of a good puzzle and always a fan of Elvis and his music. Regrettably she will not know the true secret of Oak Island (maybe none of us will) but closely followed their adventure on TV! Dorothy was a loyal employee of the Truro Carpet factory for over thirty years.

She was the loving mother of her only daughter Roxanne (John) Talbot, Georgetown, Ontario and a dear grandmother to Dylan. Dorothy enjoyed many wonderful trips to Ontario to spend time with her family.

Besides her daughter, son-in-law and grandson, she is survived by her nephew Randy (Marlene) Custance; nieces Sonja (Rodney) Hart and Kelly Custance.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her only sister Betty Mackenzie. Dorothy and Betty were extremely close their entire lives.

“Love you… talk to you soon” - Mom

Very special thanks to her friends and incredible support staff at the H.A. Johnson Manor, Truro. Employee Zelpha Taggart was a very special person in Dorothy’s heart. Also thank you to the VON support staff and Dr. J. Singh and ER nurses at the Truro Hospital. We want to acknowledge Lisa Pyke and Janice Marshall, two very good friends that became Dorothy’s angels in many times of need. Your compassion and friendship will never be forgotten.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held with family and friends later when we can gather again safely. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
