Obituary of Katharine Sarah Worton
Katharine Sarah Worton November 27th, 1964 - June 5th, 2020
Adoring Mother of Lucy, Sally and Emma Wilkie. Loving and loyal wife of Allan Wilkie. Cherished little sister of Margaret (Bill Scott) and Jane Worton, precious daughter of David and Joyce Worton. Doting Auntie of Chris, Heather, Gillian, Will, Jamie and John. Beloved by her Wilkie-Ursino-Reaume family.
Kathy died surrounded by her family in her home, June 5th 2020.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Kathy was grateful to have had a happy childhood with her parents and sisters. Blessed with a sunny disposition, she was patient, gentle, and kind. Kathy was especially fond of visits to extended family in Yorkshire and other parts of England. It was her greatest desire to provide a similarly happy childhood for Lucy, Sally and Emma, and all who know Kathy agree that she has achieved this.
Kathy was educated at Fisher Highschool (Ottawa), University of Toronto (BSc and MSc in Molecular Biology), McMaster University (MD Class of 93), and Memorial University of Newfoundland (Family Medicine Residency Class of 95). It was in Newfoundland that Kathy met Allan Wilkie, and after a spectacular courtship, agreed to be his wife.
Married April 18th, 1998, in Prescott Ontario, Allan and Kathy settled into a beautiful home in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Before long Kathy was helplessly in love with her three new arrivals, Lucy, Sally and Emma. Kathy spent the next 21 years pouring all her love into her family. She became involved in church, Sunday school, gardening, music lessons, choir, the Duke of Edinburgh award program, painting, crafting, camping, and hiking, all the while happily working from home as a proud clinical evaluator for Health Canada. She was skilled at keeping her friends and long-distance relatives close.
Kathy knew how to travel. She was constantly planning culinary and cultural adventures in Europe, America, and the Caribbean. She showed her family art, music, gardens, castles, opera, mountains, beaches, and especially “foods of other lands”. Every Family holiday was like “money in the bank”.
At home, she was a master of creating time and space and every quiet afternoon by the fireside with her family was golden. She loved to spend hours in the kitchen cooking and baking, and every dish was a delight. Kathy was loving, strong, beautiful, and delightfully funny. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
Thank you to all of Kathy’s caregivers, particularly Drs Rayson, Wellwood, Burch, and Merryweather.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be a funeral and burial when it is safe for all to gather together. Memorial donations may be made in Kathy’s memory to: Room to Read (literacy and gender equality for low income children), The Canadian Cancer Society, or the Valley Hospice Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, B4P 1E5 (902-542-4656).
In Loving Memory
Katharine Worton
