Obituary of Geraldine Elsie Ward

Geraldine Elsie Ward, 87 of Berwick, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2019 at 7:20 am, in the Grand View Manor. She was born at home in Burlington, North Mountain, and was the youngest child of the late Murdock and Elsie (Nixon) Rafuse.

Geraldine attended Long Point School and at the age of 15, she met and fell in love with our father, Arthur Ward.  They married in 1948, just one month shy of her 16th birthday. To our father, she was always Gerry.  Their first born child, Verna was born in 1950, seventeen months later came their second child and while pregnant with their third child, the couple found out that their first child, Verna had developed cancer and at the tender age of three, she passed away.  All in all, they had six children, including Joyce, Dawne, Kathryn, Jeoffrey and after moving to Ontario, their final child, Krista was born.

She worked briefly at different jobs, finally for the last time, in 1980, they moved back to Nova Scotia.  She cared for her parents until they passed. She enjoyed bingo, crosswords, puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. They did get to travel to Atlantic City and stay at Trump Towers.  Geraldine loved the slots.  She spent the last few years of her life at the Grand View Manor.

Left to mourn her loss, are children Joyce, recently widowed; Dawne, Rehab; Jeoff, Ontario; Krista (Brian); son-in-law Wally, Berwick; grandchildren Melissa (Neison); Craig (Krista); Kelley, Kentville; Jason; Noah (Tracy); Tracey, Canning; Alexis (Nick); Joel; Sarah (Jordan); Matthew; Conan; Jennifer; Rook; Damien; 13 great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter, Gabrielle.

She will be sadly missed by her friends (Daisy) and family (Mary) and others.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Arthur; daughters Verna and Kathryn; grandson Stephen; great-grandson Luke; sister Kathleen; brother Gordon; and son-in-law Charles.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Berwick Funeral Chapel, with Rev. William Hogeboom officiating. Reception to follow service and interment to take place in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Grand View Manor or Alzheimer Society Nova Scotia.   Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
