Obituary of Elizabeth Mary Chiasson

Elizabeth Mary Chiasson, age 86, Dartmouth, formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on July 13th, 2019, at St Vincent’s nursing home in Halifax after a long period with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Sophie (Hunt) Noseworthy. Betty joined the air force at 18 and met and married Ed in White Horse, Yukon. She and Ed loved to travel and went across Canada many times with their camper. They were long time square dancers, once travelling to Japan with the group. Betty was an active member of St Anthony’s RC Church in Berwick and the L’Arche community in Wolfville until their move to Dartmouth. Betty was a practical, curious, dynamic, kind woman who loved her home and family.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward; children, Catherine (Brian) McLeod, Dartmouth; Pauline (Gary) Craig, Ottawa; Dianne (Roy Hopkins) Chiasson, Halifax; Marc (Lorraine) Chiasson, Bedford; Lori Chiasson, Wolfville; grandchildren, Paul and Colin McLeod, Jennifer (Ivan) Slivecka, Adam and Matthew Craig, Ross, Gwen and Brett Chiasson; great granddaughter, Vera Slivecka; brothers, Steven (June), Maxwell (Linda), Albert (Margaret), Wayne, Randy (Mary); sisters, Helen (Larry, deceased) Smith, Sophie (Joe) Newman, Linda (Marcus) Maloney, Nada (Steve) Sooley and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by stepmother Lucy Noseworthy, brother Edwin, sister and brother-in-law Louise and Sib Staples.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the 6th floor at St Vincent’s for their care.

Cremation has taken place; a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the St. Anthony Church, 120 Mill Street, Berwick, NS. Memorial donations in, Betty’s memory, may be made to the L’Arche Wolfville or to a charity of choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
