We were saddened to learn of Jane's passing. She was a good and faithful friend for over 26 years. I (Myrna) remember when Jane first took me to her home and I saw The view of the Bay from the deck and she served tea. While health often meant we could not always see one another, her letters added much to our friendship. She and Jack told us of property for sale near them and so we have our cottage on Wall Street. We loved our talks with Jane and Jack and Jane often broadened our thinking about what could be called the ordinary things and their blessings. When able, we walked in the enchanted forest and saw her places of refuge and contemplation. One of her paintings and two of Jack's hang on our walls and remind us daily of our treasured friendship with them. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jack, Alwyn, Danny, and Vivian.

Jane was my "crib friend" -- our mothers were friends and pregnant together in Hopkinsville, Kentucky -- and we were often in each others homes until Jane and her parents moved to Louisiana when she was about seven. Her grandmother, Mrs. Eaves, still lived in Greenville nearby and Jane would come back to visit nearly every summer, even after the death of her mother. So I knew her grief then, and not very long after, her grief at the death of her father. She went then to San Francisco to live with her uncle, Nat Aaron, and Aunt Azile where she graduated from high school before going to University.
After university and her earlier marriage, we lost touch. So it was a great joy when she located me through my school after her move to Nova Scotia and we could reconnect, she meeting my Arkansas husband and we, having the great pleasure of getting to know Jack Vander Wal. (One of his paintings of the "Enchanted Forest" hangs in a prominent place where visitors frequently admire it and I can tell the happy story of its history.)
Thank you to all the Nova Scotia friends and family who made those last years of Jane's life so rich for her.
