Obituary of Leyland Kenneth Chapman

Leyland Kenneth Chapman, age 84, of Dartmouth, died peacefully at home, November 30th, surrounded by the love of family.

Ley is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Allen); his brother, Rev. Robert (Jean); and his children, Linda (David), Jeffrey (Mary Ellen) and Allen (Donna); and his beloved cat, Gus. Ley was the loving grandfather of Krista (Reg), Andrew (Paul), Kyle, Leah, Emma and Alexander; and the great-grandfather of Emma, Ashlyn, Isaac, and Spencer.

Ley was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Edna (Carter) Chapman; and his sister, Pauline Bryden (Don).

Ley was born in Southampton, and grew up in Bayfield, N.B., where he attended Port Elgin School while also working in the family store. After graduating from high school, Ley worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Port Elgin before moving to Moncton where he joined Eaton's. Ley was eventually employed by Border Brokers (Livingston International) where he had a successful career of over 30 years which took him and his family to Montreal, Toronto, and Dartmouth, where he and Helen retired. Ley was a member of Stairs Memorial United Church and dedicated his time and energy to the church community. Ley enjoyed coin collecting, gardening, and was an avid winemaker, the product of which he enjoyed sharing generously with friends. Above all else, Ley was dedicated and attentive to his family, providing love and support, and celebrating family moments, big or small.

A Celebration of Remembrance will be held Thursday, December 6th at 1 p.m. in Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester St., Dartmouth. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ley's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Stairs Memorial United Church (CanadaHelps.org) would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
