Obituary of Leora Ruby Hazelwood

Leora Ruby Hazelwood, 91, of Kentville  passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 28, 2018 in the Shannex Orchard Court.  Born on December 7, 1926 in Burlington Kings Co, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Illsley) Saltzman.

Leora worked a variety of jobs during her careers at Rice’s Restaurant, Graves, Berwick Bakery and the Grand View Manor.

Leora resided at the Shannex Orchard Court for the last three years where she spent time with her sister Eva and made many new friends, building strong and lasting relationships with staff and friends during her residence.  She enjoyed participating in all activities. It was great to see Mom have such a profound effect with all the people she came in contact with during her stay at Orchard Court.  She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and the younger great great-grandchildren who brought so much joy to her life. 

She is survived by daughter Marnie (Lee McClair) Hazelwood, Torbrook; son John (Wilma Misner) Hazelwood, Mount Uniacke; grandchildren Randy “Raven”, Natasha, Tanya, Lorne; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan, Scott, Karlee, Alyssa, Madisyn, Skylar, great great-grandchildren, Chase, Silas, Wyatt, Emilee, Theodore.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Armand; daughter Sandra; brothers, Ernst Connor, Harvey Connor, Harold Saltzman, Wallace (Archie) Saltzman; and sister Eva Keddy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00pm and a Funeral Service will be held December 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm, both in the Berwick Funeral Chapel, followed by a short gathering with the family.  Burial will take place the Berwick cemetery for family only.  Family flowers only. Memorial donations, in Leora’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Berwick Funeral Chapel, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick, NS, B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900).
