Obituary of Marie Irene Dixon

With gratitude for a life well lived, we are saddened to announce passing of  Marie Dixon of Dartmouth at the age of 97  in the VG Site, QEII, CTU on Thursday October 18, 2018. Born in the Forties Settlement, Lunenburg Co. in October 1920, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Alice (Keddy) Hiltz.

Marie was actively involved in her community. She served on the Board of Directors of Dartmouth Vocational School in the late 1970's. She was a volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Farquharson Unit of the UCW and was recently awarded the Lifetime Membership. Her hobbies included Candlepin Bowling, she was a member of Early Bird 's for over 40 years and continued to bowl up until her recent stroke. Spending time with her family and friends was most important to her and she always was up for a good game of cards.

She is survived by her children, Charles, Mona Reeves (Gene Seaboyer), Fred (Helen), Christine (Jim McGinnis); sisters, Lottie McAlpine and Joan Walker; sister-in-law, Pansy Hiltz; grandchildren, Krista (Ben) Kelly, Jennifer (Andrew) Mason, Jeff (Claudine) Dixon, Billy Dixon (Leanne Antoski) Annemarie (Josh) Norwood, Brett and Keegan McGinnis; great-grandchildren, Chloe Mason, Samuel and Simon Kelly, Mila and Kai Dixon, Rachael and Rebecca Dixon, Hunter, Haidyn and Jaxson Norwood.

Predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Chuck Dixon; brothers, Reuben, Russell (Bernice), Hencie (Dollie), Foster; sisters, Abbie (George) Hamlin, Evelyn, Ina (Victor) Hiltz, Kay (Hardy) Gates; brothers-in-law, Roy McAlpine and Edison Walker.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25th, 6-8 p.m. in Rooms A and B, Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Rd., Dartmouth. A celebration of her life to be held Friday, October 26th at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn United Church. Family interment will be in St. Augustine's Church Cemetery, Forties at a later date. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Woodlawn United Church or the charity of your choice. A special thank you to the staff of the Dartmouth General and VG Site, QEII Hospitals for their care and compassion during her hospital stay and to everyone who provided their prayers and moral support to the Dixon Family.
