Obituary of Robert Alexander Montgomery

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with sad hearts, that the family of Robert "Bob" Alexander Montgomery, announce his passing on June 15, 2018. He was born in Saint John, NB, the youngest son of James and Eulilie (Marchand) Montgomery, where he also met and married Alice Mary (Burns) on July 31, 1054. Bob was a graduate of Saint John Vocational School in Motor Mechanic. He was an excellent mechanic and was self employed for many years. In the Fall of 1969, he had an offer he couldn't refuse and moved his family to Dartmouth to begin a career with Imperal Oil (Esso). Through the years, Bob became a Jack of All Trades and a master of many, building houses, bull dozing and Sunday drives. In 1973, Bob and Alice began the adventurous undertaking to own and establish a very successful campground in Aylesford. Klahanie Kamping became a home away from home for generations of families to gather together where Bob was usually at the helm of many practical jokes, just ask anybody if they ever had salt in their coffee. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice; children Kevin of Timmins, ON; Gail (Rick) Bracken of Calgary, AB; Steve (Janet) Montgomery of Aylesford; Rick Montgomery of Wilmot; grandchildren Robert Montgomery and Jamie Montgomery of Saint John, NB; Jason Montgomery, Michelle (Jason) Dingwall, Alexander Bracken and Candice (Zach) Smart of Cincinnati, OHIO; Chelsey Turgeon; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bob is the final legacy of his family, being predeceased by his mother and father; sisters Jane Duffy, Margaret Malone, Lillian MacDonald, Frances Richard, Dorothy "Dolly" Desmarais; brothers Alex, Richard and Jerry. In the words of a dear family friend, "If you looked up the definition of a typical Maritimer, Bob Montgonery's face would appear." He was kind, hard-working, welcoming, personable, honest, accomadating, loving and incredibly funny. He approached life as he lived it, with zest, humour and absolute kindness. The world lost a positive force of nature when he left us. Cremation has taken place and, at Bob's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service to take place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to The Beehive, Aylesford, Annapolis Valley VON or Valley Food Bank. A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date when the family can gather and cheer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822). Sincere thanks to the staff of Rainforth Wagner Unit of Grand View Manor, Berwick.
