Janice, Natalie, Watt and Mellissa. Family and friends.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you all at this time of grieving. Mike was a dear close friend of mine when we served together on HMCS Protecteur some 40 years ago. His charming wit and sense of honour was a great moral booster to everyone who knew him during our journeys around the globe.
His leadership was nothing less then perfect and he kept us safe during the more dangerous times during our career as Firefighters.
As all good friendship go in the Military, we move away and make new friends. I wish we could have kept in touch more during our retirement years.
Janice, you can be sure Mike is going to brag about you in his new place in Heaven. Just as he did when he was away from home. Natalie, Watt and Mellissa, you have to now ensure your Dads legacy is carried forward and be proud to tell his grandchildren and everyone his stories.
My favourite one is about how Mike and a few Protecteur crew flew over to an abandoned burning Norwegian ship. (MV ESSI SILJE) and after a lengthily battle, they were able to bring the fire under control. "Just another day at sea", Mike said as he got back on board Protecteur.
