Highland Avenue will sorely miss Keith's visits every other Thursday, collecting bottles, bringing us news of his family and their earlier trips to Cuba. We also remember when our boys were young and how much they loved going to Meerman's Beehive for penny candy.
Condolences to the family, know we greatly admired Keith for his dedication to his work, his community, and mostly, his family.

Dear Meermans,
So very sorry to hear of Keith's passing. I was Arthur's roommate at McGill for a couple of years, and mostly knew Keith through Arthur's stories. Only met him once, I think. That was the time Arthur cleaned the apartment.
The silly little memory stuck in my mind was when I called the house during the summer break from university to talk to Arthur about living arrangements. Keith answered the phone.
Me: "Hi, this is Barnaby, Arthur's roommate, calling from Toronto."
Keith: "Toronto, eh? Never heard of it."
That really cracked me up, and it's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw that he'd gone, and I'd thought I'd share it with you.
Wishing you all the very best as you gather to mourn him and find a way to move on through the world with the humour you all share.
Barnaby Clunie

Dear Meerman family,
We were saddened to hear of Keith’s passing and that We had not heard sooner and been able to attend his funeral service. His strength and generosity have served as an inspiration for many.
Keith and Alice encouraged my wife and me to come to Cuba with them eight years ago over Chinese buffet. While we never did get there with them (because I bought tickets to the wrong location), we did go and are now beginning preparations for our sixth trip to Eastern Cuba. With groups from The Valley, we have built a church, partnered with a church camp and are in the process of purchasing a property that will serve as a Centre for worship and outreach for a small village in the mountains north-west of Santiago de Cuba. We are ever thankful for their example and initial push to try something new. Because of Keith and Alice, Cuba is now in our hearts too.
Sincere Blessings,
John

Lawrence, Bill, Repko, Stephen & Arthur,
So sorry to hear of your dad's passing. When I think of Keith I always remember going into Meermans, where mom (Phyllis Crowell) worked and Keith was always on the move with a swirl of pipe tobacco smoke around him, but it could never catch him. Unfortunately I have not seen your mom or dad in recent years. My sincere condolences to each of you and your families.

Dear Alice and family:
So sorry to read about Keith’s recent death. He was a very active man during his life and his presence and community contributions will surely be missed. One vivid memory I have of him was a winter night that he pulled me out of my driveway when I was living on Main St. In Wolfville. It seems he was always there to help anyone in need. Thinking and praying for all of you during this difficult time. Jane Aalders St.Clair

Alle goeds toegewenst, hartelijke groeten, tante Ada, Pim

Keith and Alice were two of the finest people I ever met, who truly lived by the Golden Rule. Such good memories of Keith serving at the various Lions functions in Wolfville, or hearing his stories as a boy in Holland during the Nazi occupation at the Wollfville Legion Rememberence Day Dinner, or being a guest in their home. However, nothing compares to their personal missionary work in Cuba, filling suitcases full of used glasses, non prescription drugs, or other things we Canadians take for granted, and taking them to Cuba for people desperately in need of these basic necessities of life. His stories still resonate with me, and his life is a true inspiration.
So fortunate to have known both of them.

Dear Keith or in Dutch Kees we are going to miss you!!!, you were a good friend since 1945 so that was for 73 years. !!!! We lived across the street from each other after the 2e
Worl War in Scheveningen The Netherlands and played at a young age with Joop and Hans and myself in the dunes just after the war in he bunkers and made hundreds of lead soldiers from the old water drains in the bombed houses!!!! It is a miracle and Thank God that we never stepped on a land mine .!!!! We both left in Mach 1955 for Canada and worked on Janzen’s farm in Canning N.S. for 2 years which were the requirements at that time to immigrate into Canada.. We kept in touch after I left for the west and continued our friendship in 2009 when I returned to Nova Scotia. Keith we will promise to keep Alice in our prayers and visit her on a regular basis. Keith we miss your weekly visits and is goodn to have all those great memories from the last 73 yeas!!

Dear Meerman family,
My condolences to all of you. Your dad meant a whole lot to me and the Hutten family. He was a frequent visitor at our family on Lower Canard, and always brought along his good humour.
Your father was our best man at our wedding in July, 1965. On my regular visits to Nova Scotia I tried on several occasions to keep in touch. Our connections were brief, but we always expressed appreciations to each other for the shared good memories. He worked so hard to look after your mom for many years.
God's blessings to all of you as you bring your father to rest.
