Obituary of Gerald William Mosher
Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald William Mosher, age 87, passed away on December 16, 2017, at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia after a long struggle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Gerry was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1930, and grew up with his siblings on Fairbanks Street adjacent to Halifax Harbour.
He was a very avid and accomplished sportsman, particularly Baseball, Football and Automobile Racing, He was also a fine photographer and a great lover of music. Gerry began his working career building houses, in the Dartmouth area, in the late 1940's, but is best remembered as a significant figure in sales of Heavy Construction Equipment while serving as General Manager of Blackwood Hodge Atlantic. He will also be remembered by his many friends and customers of Automotion, a business that provided custom parts for imported cars.
Gerry lived his entire life in Nova Scotia, including several locations in Dartmouth, Milford and finally, Kentville. He was also very well-travelled having visited many places around the world, but had a very special fondness for the Tuscany region of Italy.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Elva (Bryan), and his sister Donna (Nickerson). He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Kirby) who he loved, cherished and protected until his very last breath, his brother Cyril, his sisters Betty (Lynch) and Marion (Leavens), his children Craig (Cynthia Allen), Steve and Colleen (Patrick Hairr), his grandchildren, who he was so immensely proud of, Briar, Jeff, Abigail, Emily, Lauren and Christian and one great grandchild, Liam.
Gerry approached every task the same way, with great passion and an extraordinary attention to detail. He led by example and consequently passed these very same attributes on to his children. Gerry was a larger than life figure, had a special presence, was hardworking and relentless. He loved his family and provided them with opportunities to experience the world and decide what they wanted to be. As he leaves this world, he would provide us all with the following advice. Work hard, care passionately about what you do, and never give up.
Special thanks to the staff at Valley Regional Hospital for providing compassionate and professional care during his time there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital, in Kentville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (902-679-2822).
