Obituary of Bernard Henry Thorpe

Bernard Henry Thorpe, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Valley Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with Cancer.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Frances (Guptill) Thorpe of Lockhartville; his sons, Peter (Colleen) of Hortonville, Randy (Kim) of Wallbrook, Andrew (Cindy) of Kentville and Jimmy (Bernetta) of San Jose Ca; a sister Doreen Macdougall of New Minas and his 10 grandchildren; Barbie, Jackie, Devon, Curtis, Alyssa, Liam, Kylie, Lauren, Erin and Sophie, his 3 great grandchildren, Molly, Hailey and Austin. He was pre-deceased by his brother Lewis, his sister Grace and grandson Joseph.
Born in Centerville Kings Co in 1936 to George and Dorthy Sanderson-Thorpe. Bernie's mother passed away when he was 6 years old and went to live with his Grandmother Minnie Sanderson in Pereau until his father remarried he then moved with them to Wolfville.
In his early years, Bernie worked for Archibald's poultry farms in Billtown. He later moved to Lockhartville and worked for the Minas Basin paper mill in Hantsport. The family attended the Glad Tidings Tabernacle church in Windsor then the Cornerstone Assembly in Canning for many years.
In 1977 Bernie suffered an aneurism which rendered restricted his ability to work. With the care and support of his family however he was able to live a long and enjoyable life. He especially enjoyed the trips to California with Frances to visit their son and his family. A special highlight was their trip to Hawaii with several family members.
Bernie had a passion for music and was an exceptional fiddle player. He also enjoyed playing other instruments including the guitar and harmonica. Bernie enjoyed playing at family gatherings with his father and brother. He was also an avid hunter and liked to fish whenever he had the chance.
A visitation will take place on August 11, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on August 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm, both in the Wolfville Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in the West Brooklyn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital or a Charity of One's Choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656).
