It is with saddened hearts that the family of Ralph Wilbert Smith, 80 of Aylesford announce his peaceful passing with his wife and children by his side on December 29, 2016. Loving husband to Joan Ann Stevens for over 59 years. Beloved father to Kendall of Kingston and Melody (Glenn) Luddington of Kingston. Cherished grandfather to Kyle of Greenwood and Amber of Victoria, BC. Great grandfather to twins Jax and Lexi. Ralph will be dearly missed by his sister Joyce (John) Turcotte and nephew Meldon (Louise) Smith of Halifax. His life story began June 16, 1936 in the rural community of Caledonia, Guys. Co. Born to Frank and Millie (MacIntosh) Smith. He worked at construction for many years, including building the runways for the Halifax Airport. He also worked for Imperial Oil. In 1974, Ralph and Joan moved their family from Lower Sackville to the Annapolis Valley. They both worked successfully as owners of Stevens Bros. Furniture Store in Aylesford. Ralph had a soft heart for all animals, but expecially German Shepherds and cats. He will be missed by his two feline companions, Buffy and Muffin. Ralph and Joan travelled to many exotic places in their younger years but in later years preferred to stay closer to home, camping and attending music festivals. Ralph was predeceased by both his parents and a nephew, Yvon Turcotte. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (902-679-2822). By Ralph's request, there will be no funeral service. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery at a later date. Family Flowers only. The family would greatly appreciate memorial donations be made to the NS Heart & Stroke Foundation or the NS Diabetes Association.
