Obituary of Beulah Amanda Doherty

It is with gratitude for her life and sadness at her loss we announce the peaceful passing of a special lady Aunt Booie, Beulah (Gates) Doherty, 18 days short of her 98th Birthday at the Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of New Minas and Baddeck. Born in New Ross she was the daughter of the late Percy Willard Gates and Eva Amanda (Hennigar) Gates. Beulah was pre-deceased by her late husband Andrew Doherty of Baddeck in 1975, brothers and sisters Frances Gates, Leitha Gates (in childhood) Lettie Walker, John Gates, Foster Gates, Pauline Smith, Alberta Redden, Eileen Rafuse and Dorothy MacKenzie. Beulah graduated with her RN's from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and was a lifetime member of the Nova Scotia Nurses Association. She worked at the (Kentville) Nova Scotia Sanatorium where she met her husband Andy, who were married in 1957. She then moved to the Doherty homestead on Long Hill Road Baddeck and later returned to new Minas in 1986 to be closer to her sisters and immediate family. Beulah was a faithful member of New Minas Baptist Church, Greenwood United Church, Baddeck and New Ross Baptist Church and was a strong supporter of many local charities. She especially enjoyed spending time with her sisters, nieces, nephews and close friends over the years and was an avid knitter, played at lot of Skip Bo, always enjoyed a good laugh and will be fondly remembered as a loving Auntie by all her nieces and nephews. She loved to be kept informed on all their comings and goings as they were an important part of her life. A special thank you to RN Scharmaine and staff of the Wolfville Nursing Home for all their great care and support over the past years. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (902-679-2822). Visitation will take place starting at 1:00 PM on Wednesday December 21 at the New Minas Baptist Church, 9453 Commercial Street, New Minas with a 2:00 PM funeral service. Rev Daniel Cormier and Rev Sterling Gosman will be officiating followed by a reception in the church hall. Internment will take place at a later date at Highland View Cemetery, Bay Road, Baddeck, Cape Breton. Family flowers only by request.
