Obituary of Margery Halsted Dahn

Margery Huber Dahn, 91 It is with sorrow the family of Margery Dahn announces her death on August 1. Margery was born in Passaic, New Jersey on October 16, 1924, daughter of Mildred (Fairchild) Huber and Henry Huber. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Charles Dahn, sons, Douglas Dahn (Julia Purcell) Clyde River, PEI; Jeffery Dahn (Kathy Macdonald), Halifax; Roger Dahn (Mona McLaughlin), Bocabec, N.B.; and Nancy Dahn (Timothy Steeves) St. John's, NL and 11 grandchildren, Christopher Dahn, Montreal; Dorothy MacPhee (Robbie) Charlottetown, PEI; Mira Dahn, Montreal; Renee Dahn, Clyde River, PEI; Hannah Dahn, Halifax; Tara Dahn, Halifax; Jackson Dahn, Halifax; Dustin Dahn (Meghan Haring), Bathurst, NB; Jessica Dahn, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL; Clara Steeves, St. John's, NL; Sasha Steeves, St. John's NL; and three great-grandchildren Silas Dahn and Merrick Dahn, sons of Christopher Dahn and Julia Gregory, and Oscar MacPhee, son of Dorothy and Robbie MacPhee. Margery had been happily married to Raymond since June 1950. She graduated from Guilford College, a small Quaker college near Greensboro, North Carolina in 1945 and received a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1950. She and Raymond moved from Long Island, New York, where Raymond was Business Manager of Friends World College, to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1970 with their family. She was a member of the Halifax Friends Meeting and a local group worshipping in the manner of Friends. Margery's main interests were classical music and peace and justice. She played cello in The Chebucto Orchestra, Halifax for 18 years and also played in various ensemble groups, most recently in a piano trio in Mahone Bay. She was a long time peace activist, both in the United States and Canada, was an active member of the Council of Canadians and the Bridgewater peace group, People for Peace, which holds a peace vigil every Monday in Bridgewater. She also loved gardening, and with her husband and children, raised most of their vegetables in three large gardens. She loved to read and for many years attended book groups in the Lunenburg Library. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Fisherman's Memorial Hospital and South Shore Regional Hospital for their exceptional care of Margery during her illness. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (902-679-2822). Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held to celebrate the life of Margery at a date to be announced later. Family Flowers only.
