Obituary of Deborah Beatrice Maguire
Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deborah “Debby” Maguire, 66, passed away peacefully at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton, March 17, 2016. Born in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Clarence “Mick” Maguire and Nellie (Watson) Jessop.
Debby grew up in Hantsport and attended Horton District High School, graduating in 1968. It was at Horton that Debby’s friendship with Cathy Ells began and where she became an honorary member of the Ells family.
Debby was a long time resident of Greenwood, where until her retirement in 2011 due to poor health, she work for the Bank of Nova Scotia. Her career with the bank spanned 20 years and she made many lasting friendships.
Debby had a big heart. She was dedicated to her mother and cared for her in her home for many years. Debby and her former husband acted as host family to International high school students and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Japan in 2008 to attend the wedding of one of her “girls”, Rumi. In typical Debby fashion, she came home bearing small gifts for everyone!
Debby loved all animals, especially her adored Boston Terriers, Bethany and Princess and she was a member of Boston Terrier Rescue Canada, fostering dogs until permanent homes could be found for them.
She is survived by her son Michael, brothers Greg and Garnet and their families, good friends Gail, Queenie, Cathy, Barb, and her honorary “Ma”, Gwen Ells and family.
Debby was an organ donor and through her donation, two people have received the wonderful gift of sight.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656). Donations can be made to Boston Terrier Rescue Canada. A service will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at 2:00 pm in the Wolfville Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.serenitylindsayfuneralhome.ca
