Vance Gerald Hiltz, 89 of New Ross, NS, passed away March 16, 2016 at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born September 20, 1926 in the Forties, NS. He was the son of the late Richard and Hulda (Leopold) Hiltz.
Vance was a gentle, gentleman! At a young age he and a dear friend Don went out west to work and he settled in Terrace Bay, Ontario where he worked for Kimberly Clark, Woodlands until his retirement in 1983. Vance married Muriel (Parker) Meister in 1966. He was also a long standing member of the Golden Age Club and the St. Augustine's Church.
Vance loved his garden, especially his potatoes. He loved to play cards, socialize, a cup of tea now and then, his kitties and a good joke. He also loved to reminisce, sit on his deck in the summer and by his fire in the winter, all with his good friend Theodore.
Vance is survived by sister Virginia VanOoyen, Ontario, his step children Marian (Glen) Walker, New Ross, David Meister, Ontario, Linda (Warren) Pearen, Ontario, Phil (Holly) Meister, Ontario, Vernon (Carol) Meister, Nova Scotia, Orley Meister, New Ross, Gene (Shirley) Meister, Greenwood, Donald (Diane) Meister, Cape Breton, Velma (Bill) Murray, Alberta, Reta (Bud) Meister, New Ross, Janette (Francis) Moore, Aylesford and Shirley (Harris) MacAskill, New Ross. Also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Muriel (Parker-Meister), sister, Muriel Collicutt, brothers, Ronald, Clair and Sherman and step sons, Roger and Vaughn (Bud) Meister.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay New Ross Funeral Chapel, 4935 Hwy 12 New Ross (902-689-2961). A visitataion will take place on Monday, March 21st from 7-9 pm in the St. Augustine's Church in the Forties. A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd at 2:00 pm in the same location. Family Flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Augustine's Church, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice.
