Dorothy Elaine Mitchell. It is with sadness and heartache that we announce the death of Dorothy Elaine Mitchell "GG" of New Ross who passed away on Saturday February 20th, 2016 in the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Born February 22, 1927 in Jamaica, West Indies to Robert and Molly Garth, Dorothy lived a wonderful life filled with travel, friends and family. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loyal friend who will be dearly missed. She was employed for many years with Verizon, New York until her retirement when she returned to New Ross to be an active and contributing volunteer within the community. Dorothy was a devoted member of Christ Anglican Church, Christ Church Guild and Charing Cross Gardening Club.
She is survived by her son. Irvin (Jackie) Mitchell, Regina and her daughter Jean (Bruce) Elliott, New Ross, nine Grandchildren; Jacqueline (Brent) Pfeifer, Regina; Kathlene (Terry) Murkin, Regina; Jonathan (Tia) Mitchell, Regina; Steven (Denise) Baker, New Ross; Darin (Danielle) Baker, New Ross; Lori Ann (Jason) Farris, Timberlea; step-grandchildren Terry (Bernadine) Elliot, New Ross; Sherry (Dean Tidd) Elliott, Greenwood; Paul (Bobbie-Anne) Elliott, Tantallon; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Dorothy was one of eight children: Cynthia, Horase, Bob, George, Ashton, Joyce "Precious" and Althea "Bunny" and is survived by sisters Joyce and Althea and many loving nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Nurses and Doctors of the South Shore Regional Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during Dorothy’s stay.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay (New Ross) Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday February 27th, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Christ Anglican Church, New Ross, followed by a reception at the New Ross Legion. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Christ Anglican Church, New Ross or a charity of one’s choice.
