LUTZ, JoEllen Christina, Age 93 of Berwick passed away peacefully on January 31, 2016. She was the daughter of Willard and Mary Houghton formally of Aylesford NS. Born in Halls Harbour she received her high school education in Victoria Harbour, after which she was employed with WL Nichols General Store in Aylesford as well as working in Hubbard’s Nova Scotia. In February 1944 she married Corporal Otis Lutz and two years later together they purchased a small farm in Welsford, where she resided until the passing of her husband in 2015. JoEllen and Otis had a long and happy marriage at the same time, JoEllen giving birth to a son Terry Willard and a daughter Patricia Karleen. JoEllen was always active in the community affairs as well as being a long time member of the Berwick United Church where she taught Sunday school in her younger years. She always encouraged her family to attend regular Sunday services. She was a long time member of the Berwick Lionette’s, enjoyed square dancing, snowmobiling, some camping and several winters in Florida. JoEllen excelled as a mother and homemaker determined to see her children happy and successful. JoEllen has many friends and will be sadly missed. She was predeceased by her brother Carl Houghton, Brothers in law, Milton Collins and Jack Park. She is survived by her son Terry (Diane) Lutz, Cochrane Alberta, daughter Patricia (Peter) Pozdnekoff Dartmouth N.S, sisters, Phyllis Collins, Charlton Mass., Maxine Park Peterborough ONT. JoEllen has three grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Ogden, Calgary Alberta, Jennifer (Vay) Tu Petawawa ONT., Allyson (Duncan) Cathcart, Cochrane, Alberta. Great grandchildren, Cassandra and Robert Ogden. William, Jacob, Shaw and Ava Cathcart, Kien and Harper Tu.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home (Berwick Funeral Chapel) (902) 538-9900.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Berwick United Church at 2:00 pm, Friday February 5th with Rev’d Tom Woods officiating with the interment at a later date. A reception will be held in the church following the service. Donations in honor of JoEllen can be made to the Berwick United Church.
